We were incredibly disppointed in the Gaylord. It is advertised as a 4 star hotel; but, at best, it is a good 2 star hotel. ... The parking was difficult to access - a long walk from the front desk. The rooms were not luxurious. The bed linens and bathroom towels were cheap and of poor quality. The television was an old TV set, not a flat screen. We would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone. We checked out after only one night - and went to the Hampton Inn (which was a MUCH nicer hotel).

This was a wonderful family trip. The Gaylord-Texan was beautiful. The staff was superb! The views were breathtaking. The ... hotel was very clean and decorated beautifully for the Christmas Season. We were surprised we had to pay for parking, and there was a "hotel" fee for use of fitness center and pool and 2 bottles of water a day. We would go back here again and not bother to stay or look to stay anywhere else. There were tons of activities, and surprises around every corner. We will never forget this trip....

The Gaylord Texan was what we expected having stayed at the Gaylord in Orlando. The rooms were very nice. The staff was ... accomodating. The atrium view was spectacular. The spa is first class. The location is good because even though its in the middle of nowhere, its convenient to the stadium and in between Dallas and Ft. worth thus allowing you to experience both cities. The only downside is the food is average and on the expensive side.

Nice for a quick weekend getaway
CPT Oct 19, 2009
This was just a quick 1-night getaway. After checking in, we enjoyed the mystery theater dinner and then headed over to the ... Glass Cactus - they wave the cover if you are staying at the hotel. The club was extremely crowded, but the band was great. We stayed for a while and then headed back to our room. Unfortunately we did not get a good nights rest due to extremely noisy neighbors combined with very thin walls. The beds were not awful, but we expected better. The staff was very friendly and even credited my credit card for an old gift card that I had never used, but was no longer in their system. All in all, we would stay there again, but only if we were already there for an event.

Gamer Aug 18, 2009
This was my second time going to the Gaylord Texan and it was very much like the first time. The hotel is massive, probably ... its own little village. It has everything from little shops, food, entertainment, fun in the sun, and late-night snacking. Though, all of it does come to be rather pricey. But for the most part, it is all worth it. Everything here is just fantastic.

The Riley's Jul 20, 2009
We went for our 7 year anniversary and it was truly amazing. We walked around and the Atrium was well kept and it seemed you ... could walk around for hours on the indoor trails setup similar to the riverwalk in San Antonio. The pool was fun with a DJ and a bar next to the pool. The drinks were expensive at $7-8 each and beer at $5-6 each so it was easy to run up a $120 tab a the pool. Overall, a great resort with plent of things to do and enjoy.

The Grand Gaylord Texan
just the facts, please Jul 13, 2009
My son and I were here for a tournament. We enjoyed the restaurants, reading at the bistro tables while eating ice cream or ... slurping down mocha shakes in the evening. The atmosphere and the beauty of the resort is beyond compare. The daily $15 resort fee was a farce. It gave you wireless internet service and in-room high speed internet access and fitness center access and some phone call access(we did not use any of these). It also included 2 bottles of water per day in room, however if any water bottles, whether they were purchased by you or a bottle left over from the previous day, you didn't receive your two bottles. I had to ask housekeeping to give me water after my room was finished and she had already left. If you are charging an additional $15 a day, at least please give me my water. The discounted shuttle to mall and to downtown was costing anywhere from $33 to $10. I got so many different answers it was ridiculous. Finally, on my 5th day I was told of a complimentary shuttle to the mall only because another group had contracted that service. Overall, our stay was enjoyable. The people were nice, but needed to be a bit more informed. In the evenings there were different events. The larger events were advertised but not the smaller ones. I would have liked to have seen them posted somewhere. I would have also liked to have seen some tour packages to some historical sites in the area.

Nice but ideal for short visits
Amanda Jul 9, 2009
It is a beautiful facility and the rooms are top notch. However, it is very expensive to eat there or even buy sundries. ... Because they are a "destination" hotel and everything is under one roof, you are at the mercy of having to eat at their restaurants. The most affordable is about $18 per person and then it goes up from there. There is a cafe but a bowl of oatmeal cost $6 and milk (to go into the oatmeal) was extra. Everything cost money except the toiletries in the room. If you need to use the office center...forty cents per minute on the internet. To take a shuttle into town (just 1.5 miles away) $10 each way. Shuttle to airport, well that's $38 for two people and another $5 per person thereafter. If you need to buy water that's $3 per bottle. We had to stay there for a tournament and were there for 5 nights. It added up quickly not to mention, the $15 per day (+ tax) hotel fee which is charged on top of your daily room rate. If we had to do it again I would get a rental car so we could stock up on food items for the room and use the car for getting out of the confines of the hotel. (note: they have very small refigerators & no microwaves) Otherwise, we would stay elsewhere where we could be in walking distance to other places and at least, experience something complimentary other than the toiletries. Downtown Grapevine is charming and has lots to offer.
Traveler type: Family
If you stay there longer than 3 nights without a rental car, you may get tired of the food, similiar menu items at the other casual restaurants there in the hotel. If you have a rental car, then go into Grapevine (1.5 miles) we walked it and it's not a bad walk but can be long depending on the weather.

Hot Texas Night
Lindalu Jul 7, 2009
The hotel/resort is beautiful with great attention to the lobby and common areas. Our room was very nice, BUT there was ... obviously an A/C problem. We called to report the problem at 6:00 pm. Maintenance showed up in about an hour and started working on it.We told them we had 8:00 pm reservations, but please continue with the work. When we returned to the room at 11:00 pm., maintenance showed back up (instead of working on it while we were out), and proceeded to stay in our room until midnight. They still did not fix the A/C. We sweltered all night. At 3:00 am, we were awakened by the loud speaker in our room announcing "All Clear! All Clear!" and some other information we did not grasp. About 10 minutes later, again, we hear "This is an All Clear. You may return to your rooms". In closing, let me ask you, "how would you rate this night?"

The Riverwalk Cafe provides an all you can eat buffet which cost about $18.00 for breakfast, $28.00 for lunch and $32.00 for dinner (I think). The bar is enormous and filled with everything from crab legs to hummus. I am not a buffet eater but we dinner here often because of the array of foods. The cost was certainly worth the price. Kids under 5 are free.
