Great getaway

Weekend getaway in an historic Galveston hotel, great history and story that they could play up more. Had a king room and though comfortable I would have preferred a bigger room. We had the Sunday brunch which is not included but a great meal and worth the trip just for the brunch. Great atmosphere. Nice and courteous staff. I think the price was high for the night but would go back.

A 'suite' getaway by the sea.

Hotel Galvez is beautiful! From the moment you walk in you cannot help but be impressed and enveloped by the feeling that you just stepped back in time to when life was a bit slower, more gracious and inviting. The paddle fans barely rotating instantly put you in 'relax' mode. Southern charm mixed with Spanish Revival architecture and decor makes this hotel a sight not-to-be missed. The rooms are on the smaller side but well appointed with everything you need including a blow dryer, toiletries, coffee maker, coffee, tea and two bottles of water were a nice touch. We stayed in Room 423 that has a less than desirable view but served its purpose and then were upgraded (for free I might add) to Room 401 - just below the supposed haunted Room 501. It was a beautiful oceanfront corner room with a small walking closet and full office area. We didn't want to leave! Both beds were so comfy it was hard to get up especially with the view of the ocean we had without having to even lift our heads off the pillow. The amenities at the Hotel Galvez are top notch from Spa to Restaurant to the pool and jacuzzi area - it has it all. I enjoyed a pedicure one day and we loved the massive Sunday Brunch that happen to fall on New Year's Day. The staff are all wonderful and concierge are so sweet and informative, I wanted to take them home with us to Connecticut. The area was heavily damaged by Hurricae Ike, so be prepared. There is much rebuilding and repair yet to be done to the area that has a ways to go before it's back to its prime. Thankfully the Hotel Galvez was spared any damage. We had dinner at Fish Tales one night and lunch at the Mosquito Cafe the next day. Both were yummy. The Mosquito Cafe had a nice eclectic feel with a healthy modern menu and to-die-for mango ice tea and curry tuna salad. We also had dinner at Queens one night - which I would highly recommend if you are looking for some legit Texan BBQ and locals. We rode the bikes that are offered for free for use by the hotel. What a great little perk! We had fun peddling around the beach area with the sea breeze in our faces. The Strand offered us about two hours of entertainment with its many bars and touristy shops but nothing unique that you cannot find in any other oceanfront community. What made our visit special was beautiful romantic and haunted Hotel Galvez. We love you Hotel Galvez and we hope to visit you and Galveston again sometime soon.

Queens, Mosquito Cafe and Fish Tales are all within walking or biking distance and all offered some yummy food for two foodies who love some good eats.

The hotel was beautiful! Great loaction, right on the beach! Staff was friendly and more than helpful! Sunday Champagne brunch was awesome!!! The only negative comment I have about this hotel was that the comfortor in the room was stained, which was kind of gross.

The hotel is amazing. It is spotless. The staff was remarkable: they were helpful, friendly and polite. We ate breakfast there, and it was delicious. The pool is gorgeous, too.

We enjoyed Moody Garden's Rainforest Pyramid. We saw beautiful palm trees, orchids, and other foliage, as well as parrots, monkeys, frogs and a sloth. We also witnessed a butterfly hatching from its cocoon. The place is awesome!

Pool disaster

We went for my sons birthday weekend, second day, people were circling the pool only to find someone had left a toilet treat, pictures were taken, people stared and pointed, pool was closed...along with our minds to enjoy the pool the rest of the day. We tried to make sure that we were out of the room so the maids could clean in the morning, but to our surprise when we arrive to the room at 3pm the afternoon, they were knocking at the door...so back downstairs once again. Not a good experience. I notified the front desk who told me the manager would call me after checking out early, but never did. Add insult to injury. Oh well, I called corporate, maybe they will respond.

Nice, romantic hotel

We started out poorly with a disinterested clerk in the late evening, and a room that had some minor cleaning issues. However, the manager made thing "right" quickly, and the rest of the stay was great. Pool area small but nice, wonderful veranda to just sit out on in the breeze, great locked parking area with plenty of room. Breakfast buffet was superb. Other than the initial interaction with personel, all were very attentive and pleasant to work with

The nearby water park (Schliterbahn)I would avoid on a weekend--way to crowded and the tube rides are very poorly run, i.e. they let people carry the tubes away, so if you don't grab one early, you are not going to get one. We left 3 hours early due to this. Also, Rainforest CAfe (2miles) was great---but a long wait. They make the wait as enjoyable as possible though.

Annual Galveston Trip

Beautiful hotel. Very nice and comfy. Have stayed in the Hilton the past 6 years. Room was smaller than the Hilton. Only complaints are the bathroom is very dark and the guy at check-in was not very helpful at all. Grounds are gorgeous.

Fun Spot for a Long Weekend

We came for a three-day getaway with the kids. The location is wonderful directly across from the beach. The service was also very good. The rooms are very small --- especially if you are traveling with little ones.

Very Comfortable

Very nice and comfortable. Paid $40 extra to upgrade to Gulf view, but the room actually faced sideways. The Gulf was only visible if you were standing right in front of the window and looking to the side.
