Excellent Room!

The room was clean, very spacious with REALLY COLD AIR CONDITIONING! Which is super important in Galveston's extra humid, extra hot climate.

La Quinta Review

pet friendly breakfast although continential it was better than most. They did allow a group to set up so people could sign up for a "free cruise". Of course, you had to tour property. I really did not like that because they would come around to the breakfast tables

Good Hotel for Families

The staff was good at recommending things to do that would be out of the extreme heat that they were experiencing. We had a great time exploring some of their recommendations. The restaurants they recommended were also excellent!

so so vacation

There is no beach access without driving. The breakfast was a joke.On the third day there was no water for several hours[not the hotels fault] but was the last straw. We checked out early and the only comment from the desk clerk was no refunds would be given. We didn't ask for a refund,we were too happy to leave.I heard several guests talk about the RUDE front desk clerk.I WOULD NOT recomend this place.

nice hotel, but bad location

Hotel was average and clean, but the location was not what was expected. The beach in front is huge rocks and not accessible. It would be better to stay at the La Quinta on the east beach.

Weekend in Galveston

We picked this LaQuinta over the east beach location because of the price difference, but we did have to drive everywhere--not that it's very far (it is an island), but I would have liked to been able to walk across to the beach. Across from this hotel there is no sand beach, its all rock, so the kids cannot play. But it is the closest ocean-view hotel to the moody gardens and waterpark-which is great, by the way. The king bed was super comfortable with down comforter and pillows. The bathroom had newer granite countertops and bath splash. The room was clean and cool when we got there. The maid service was wonderful, but the front desk doesnt know how to put people on hold bc they hung up on us twice. Every floor has a wash room with soap dispenser and vending machines and ice machines. There is also covered parking-nice to keep off the birds. Breakfast was wonderful. Lots of selection; several kids cereals, texas shaped waffles (kiddo loved), yogurt, juices--more than we have ever gotten from a "free" breakfast. All and all--would stay here again.

Not bad, but not great either...

If I completed this survey after our first day, it would be MUCH worse! Check in was easy, but contradictory to what both the La Quinta and [...] web sites said, NOT every room has a balcony. That was one of the key things that made us choose this hotel. Only a handful of rooms don't have balconies, and we were lucky enough to get one! After spending some time on the phone with [...] and talking with the ladies at the front desk (who initially weren't interested in helping us out), we were finally moved into a room with a balcony. The rest of our stay was fairly uneventful. The location is pretty good. There's very few things within walking distance, but it only took us 5 minutes to drive to just about anything else we wanted to do. "Beach Access" is kind of a joke; nearly everything along Seawall Blvd. is non-beach (not La Quinta's fault). But a quick 3 minute drive down the road led to some pretty nice beachfront! All in all, not bad but not great either.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

If you're looking for a little quieter beach action, don't go east on Seawall to the main beach areas. Go west and you'll see some "Public Beach Access" points, one of which is in the middle of a fairly new neighborhood development. That's where we went every time we went to the beach and it was great! Clean, and mostly families out there.
