Needs to make changes, and improve

My usual hotel was booked, so I figured I'd give this place a try. I checked in after a business dinner, and went to bed. The smoke alarm started chirping and I couldn't sleep. I called the front desk and they offered to switch my room. At 11pm when I'm settled in for the night, this wasn't great. My new room (only available) was smoking. I wish their property would eliminate smoking rooms. I settled in and as I was falling asleep, the headboard fell off the wall and nearly hit me. Of course this startled me, and it took a long while for me to get to sleep. The next morning at 7, I spoke to the front desk and the girl promised that the manager would call me on my cell phone "first thing." I didn't hear from the mgr, and ended up calling them at 1pm. I cancelled my 2nd night, and made alternative arrangements. I think if they make changes and pay attention to detail, it could be an OK place to stay.

Not so hot

Very average, not worth the $65, I'd say worht half that. Room was dirty, especially bathroom, housekeeper hair (I hope) all over floor, toilet and bath tub. Run down and lower end of maintenance realm.

poor quality for the price

We paid $70 for our room through Orbitz, but he hotel charges over $85 if you book with them. We were highly dissapointed that the room did not have a microwave or a refrigerator. The TV was also one of those older models and the sheets on the bed were very old. The TV console seemed old and the drawers didn't close properly. We have stayed at several hotels in Austin and by far, this one has been the worst. The staff was very friendly and the location was good, but we will not be staying here ever again.

Suitable Lodging

We stayed a couple nights here on our way back to Dallas. We found the hotel to be suitable for the price, however, we were disappointed that they offer no breakfast, and that the toilet kept running unless you jiggle the handle. We notified the staff about the problem, but they were unable to resolve it while we were there. My wife enjoyed the use of the swimming pool.

Not a good value

I am not at all satisfied needless to say impressed with the value at this hotel. This place is average at best. It's not filthy, but it is very run down and dated. The beds look questionable ... I even checked them for bed bugs! While I did not find any bed bugs just the fact that I felt as though i had to check does not sit well with me. The area in which the motel is appears to be a little sketchy. If you are not familiar with Austin I do not suggest staying here. It is very confusing and looks like it could be bordering on a bad part of town. I will not stay here again.

Good value and location; service?

This motel is clean, safe, and comfortable. Nothing fancy, but the beds were comfortable, the room quiet considering location on I-35. The safe was not working when I checked in but the staff was kind enough to provide instructions to remedy this when I returned the next day. The only complaint is that they did not make up the room after the second night at the motel. Beyond that, good value, clean, and good access to the interesting South Austin and Downtown districts.

Best restaurants were the Salt Lick BBQ, Magnolia Cafe, Shady Grove, Juan in a Million (breakfast), and Amy's Ice Cream. Would also recommend Threadgill's for dinner/music.
