Great Location, minor comfort issues
Overall this hotel is a great value for it's location and general amenities. It is a part of the Hilton chain and has a complimentary business center, gym, pool w/ hottub and also a lounge where you can rest before you depart for the airport. Downtown and 6th street are just a stones throw away and it's not in the middle of all the chaos so you can get a good nights sleep. We encountered some issues with the HVAC system that caused some members of our party to have respiratory issues (Cold/cough) but this might be an isolated case and the hotel management should be able to fix. Overall, I would recommend this hotel to others.

Great location, great city
I had never been to Austin. The room was great, a nice view of the city. The staff displayed excellent hospitality and the location right in downtown Austin was perfect. I could walk in less than 3 minutes to my meetings at the conference center. The hotel is adjacent to the 6th street district and walkable to Red River district and the capitol as well. Inexpensive cabs to get over to SoCo for shopping and great food truck action.

Great stay
Great stay. Rather quiet hotel even though there were several events going on during our stay. Wonderful hospitality (I requested a plate and silver ware from the in-hotel restaurant, and they brought it over within 5 minutes and without a fuss or charge). Everyone who worked at the hotel was super friendly and helpful.

Worth a repeat!
My husband and I recently traveled to visit with and attend our daughter's graduation from UT. When it came time to reserve our hotel, the decision was an easy one. I had stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn (downtown Austin) last year at this time and found it to be clean and comfortable, within easy walking distance to numerous restaurants and attractions, as well as the many buslines that criss-crossed downtown Austin, the capital area, SOCO district and of course, the UT campus. We weren't disappointed this year and will definitely come back to the Garden Inn again. If you are looking for a reasonably-priced, ideally-located and great place to stay in Austin, then you should certainly check out the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown!

Great Hotel - Close to Downtown!
I was actually traveling through Austin in a cross-country trek and we wanted to stop there while traveling through Texas. The location of this place was perfect, it was close enough to 5th Street but not too close so that we heard all of the screaming and crazy partying. It's real easy to walk from the hotel to the attractions, including the warehouse district which we liked a lot. Hotel was very clean, comfortable and went out of their way to make us feel welcomed! I would stay there again, no question! My only downside, was that the room smelled like smoke, and it was a non-smoking but this wasn't a huge issue for us so we didn't complain.

Short walk from hotel
The frat-boy part of 5th street is about three blocks away, with the Warehouse district about six blocks, but walkable for the more older crowd.

the good and the bad
We went specifically to see a concert at Austin City Limits for our 20th Anniversary (minus the kids) :) The good: We upgraded (for a small fee) to the 'adjust-a-bed' mattress and it was well worth it. It actually worked, and I like my beds as soft as they will go and it really did go soft and was the best bed I've slept in a hotel in a very, very long time!! My hubby likes his bed a little firmer, so he adjusted his side and said his was just to his liking also. The hotel is very centrally located and we easily walked to everything, Austin City Limits venue, Texas State Capital, Warehouse district, "bat bridge" and of course the infamous 6th street. A rental car is definitely NOT needed or recommended (as parking is impossible to find!) The bad: The hotel is definitely old with a pretty shoddy renovation. Our room was pleasant, but the bathroom was so small! It had no fan and only 1 person could be getting ready at a time! The hotel is RIGHT NEXT TO Interstate 35 and from our room it was extremely noisy (non-stop)from the Interstate traffic! Our room was also directly across from the hallway ice maker and the laundry room, so to say that we ever had unterrupted sleep would be a lie! We had a day of total hotel power outage that made the elevators inoperable (we were on floor 14) and no air conditioning, etc....it wasn't really the hotel's fault and I guess they handled it as well as possible but it did put a damper on our day. SPECIAL NOTE: If the "swimming pool" was one bit smaller it would be called an oversize bathtub!! and there is no room for any lounge chairs, etc (in fact, there was room for 4 regular chairs TOTAL in the whole area) - - so definitely don't choose this hotel based on the "swimming pool" pics/idea!!

Short walk from hotel
Unless you are of college age and single, 6th street is a bunch of unruly, drunk college kids. We were not impressed with it at all!! (as a 40 year old married couple) It is pretty dirty and there are a ton of homeless people that beg. If you go to 4th street, known as the warehouse district there are cleaner, nicer, places to eat and enjoy music and a much tamer crowd! I would NEVER, in a million years, bring my two young-teenage children to this city as a 'vacation' and was SO glad we left them at home!! As others have noted: DRISKILLS HOTEL is very nice and good for eating, enjoying dessert/coffee! Our long-awaited concert at Austin City Limits was top-notch and was worth the entire trip - - which is good, because I'm glad I can say I saw Austin, but I don't care to ever go back there again. (and my husband was in 100% agreement)
