Madison in May
We stayed at the Madison during the Beale street music festival. The location was perfect for the event, only a few blocks from Beale itself. We used the hotel's valet service (25$/day) which was safer and cheaper than other parking arrangements in downtown Memphis. The Grill bar located in the lobby was a great environment. Overall our stay was great.

Great hotel!
Great hotel with professional service. The staff were very helpful in every way. The valet parking was great and the roof top area was also great. The hotel location was just far enough from Beale Street to avoid the noise and crowds. The trolley was less than one block away and great transporation to Beale Street.

Boutique hotel with some glitches
The Madison Hotel is potentially a great option to staying at the well-known Peabody Hotel when visiting downtown Memphis. However, despite a pleasant European ambiance and a delightful roof garden overlooking the Mississippi River, it did not have the consistent level of service of the Peabody. They were able to accomodate us, luckily, and gave us an upgraded room to a lovely little suite with sitting room that contained a desk, a bar and a formal sitting area with TV. There are no room views except for the top two or three stories (of 17) since the hotel is nestled between other highrise buildings. The bath amenities were very luxurious and pampering with marble tub, separate shower, fluffy bathrobes and bottled water. However, the cleanliness was not what I would expect from a first class hotel: there were finger prints in the bathroom (mirror and woodwork) and used soap left in the shower. The deluxe continental breakfast was served on the gallery above the main entrance area and was set up very nicely. Tables were set with cloth napkins and heavy silverware but the staff did not clear tables quickly so that when we arrived, there was no place to sit and fresh table settings were forthcoming only when we sought out an attendant after some wait. The food was good enough but nothing exceptional: coffee, juices, fresh fruit and bagels and bread to toast. Overall, the staff was friendly and the location convenient, although parking was about 2 blocks away and cost $5 per day. There is a lot of construction in the vicinity -- new condominiums going up along the riverfront -- but over the week-end when we were there, we were not bothered by noise. Overall, we liked the small scale and the type of personalized service this hotel strives to provide.

Classy, comfortable
The Madison Hotel in Memphis was a beautiful, extremely comfortable and very pleasant hotel. The room was large, the furniture was real and everything seemed new. The location was excellent - the hotel is on a quiet street, but within walking distance of Beale Street and many of the downtown Memphis tourist destinations. It is only one block from the trolly as well. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and efficient.

Excellent service and room
The Madison is a very nice small downtown Memphis hotel, within walking distance of all of the downtown events. The resturant is excellent and the staff of the hotel goes out of its way to make your stay enjoyable. On this visit we had a one-bedroom suite on the 13th floor. The bedroom adjoins the bathroom which has a seperate tub and shower. Through double doors you enter the living room which has a couch and chairs and large screen TV. There is a desk area with internet connections and a well stocked honor bar with sink. Ice was delivered to our room about 5 p.m. and of course there was turn down service. The furnishings and linens were of a fine quality. On earlier visits we stayed in the least expensive room which is of equal quality with an entry area with bar, bedroom with kingsize bed, but a bathroom that only has a shower. We would stay at the Madison anytime.

Okay but nothing great
We were expecting a great hotel, but the Madison was nothing to write home about. We will definitely stay elsewhere in downtown Memphis the next time we visit.
