Great staff makes this place

Everyone working at this hotel was super helpful and incredibly nice. The downtown location (near the Main St. trolley) and free shuttle make it easy to get around. Just call the front desk to book a tour of Graceland, Sun Studio and other big attractions. The hotel itself is what you'd expect. Basic amenities like a pool, small gym and restaurant. The room was clean and comfortable and had free wifi. Overall a good place to stay when you don't want to blow a ton of money, but expect quality service and convenience.

Unimpressed

Checking in was very simple. The girl at the front desk went through the motions but did not go out of her way to be friendly. When we entered the room it smelled badly like mildew or sour laundry. The room was very small and the bed was awful. I really expected more for $200 a night. The "breakfast for 2" was a voucher for the restaurant. I really expected more. There are much nicer hotels much closer to Beale if that is what you are there for.

The good, the bad and the ugly.

The wife and I went for weekend getaway to the birthplace of rock n' roll. The Crown Plaza was a fair hotel. The good part was it's location and shuttle service. It was about 1/2 a mile from Beale St and they had a car that would drop you off and pick you up. Problem is they would only pick up until midnight which is just when Beale St is heating up! You could walk back to the hotel but its risky. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. The staff was also very friendly. The bad was that the air conditioning did not work properly in room. It got warm in there and the unit was just circulating the room air. The controls didnt work on the unit. I also did not enjoy paying $10 a day to park my rental car in a hotel that, in my opinion, was way over priced. The ugly was the plumbing had a minor malfunction that could have turned very ugly were it not for my quick thinking by turning off the water valve.

Charles Vergos Rendezvous Restaurant. The best BBQ brisket I've ever tasted. Reasonable prices as well. They get you in and out quickly so you can hit the party on Beale St sooner rather than later.

Great stay, excellent customer service

This hotel was possibly the best experience I've had. The staff was extremely friendly and the service was prompt and outstanding. Rooms were fairly spacious, clean and very comfortable. Although located in the north part of Downtown Memphis, but the hotel provides free shuttle service to anywhere in the downtown area. There is also a trolley line within walking distance that takes you to the main downtown area.

Hotel provided transportation to places

Graceland, of course and the zoo. The 5 & dime store was unbelievably closed on Sunday as well as Monday, Labor Day. Beale Street. Staff was extremely friendly, nice and helpful. A/C complaint was immediately taken care of.

A Holiday weekend quest for barbeque...

Had the staff - [...], the other front desk folk and [...] (limo driver) not been so cordial and accomodating, we would have checked out on day two. Shower curtain 3 inched too short which flooded the floor. Hot water on right, cold on left for sink (note to staff - a real potential burn hazard) No shortage of hot water even with a near capacity holiday week-end crowd. And the toilet clogged. They were very quick in getting a plunger to my room. We moved to another room for the balance of our stay. The parking charges did come as a last minute surprise.Again, the staff was absolutely outstanding. Not so the physical plant.

AWFUL hotel and [...] experience

This experience was a nightmare. The hotel lobby was infested with mosquitos. We had 3 people in our party and had reserved a room with 2 double beds. We were told they only had single bed rooms available. After we showed them our confirmation, they told us they had a room with 2 beds and gave us keys. We then walked into a room with naked people in bed. The hotel then could not accommodate us with another room with 2 beds, and they did not have any extra bedding for a third person to sleep on the floor or in a cot. After 'checking on things' for 2 hours, we decided to leave. The staff was very unprofessional and rude throughout the time. The hotel [...] promised us a refund but refused to offer proof. We are now out the money for one night's stay.
