Very Clean But Needs Remodeling!

We stayed at Magnuson Hotel after a UT football game. I was impressed with how clean the room and bathroom were. I noticed a lot of work that needs to be done--wallpaper peeling, carpet tore in a couple of spots. The bed wasn't very comfortable--They need to replace the mattresses. The hotel is in a very good location--close to the interstate and near lots of shopping places and restaurants. It's not luxurious, but it will do for a short stay.

Good Hotel in West Knoxville

The Howard Johnson Plaza is a nice looking hotel in a good area of Knoxville. My room was clean and average sized. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel is near the West Town Mall, which includes a movie theatre, and the Centre at Deane Hill, an outdoor shopping center. It's right across the street from a Walgreens. They also offer a free breakfast (continental plus waffles and biscuits & gravy). The staff were professional and polite. I did have a problem when I asked to extend my stay by one night. The gentleman at the desk told me I needed to do that through Orbitz because I had made my original reservation through Orbitz. So I called Orbitz, but they told me their blocked of rooms was booked. The man at the desk then told me Orbitz was wrong, but finally did book my room for the additional night. It seems there's poor communication between Orbitz and this hotel. The employees here were also unclear about whether they accept Trip Rewards and how to put this stay on my account. I would recommend this place. If you want to stay in West Knoxville, this is a clean, comfortable, convenient, and affordable option.

great location

The Howard Johnson is basicly a bar/nightclub which has rooms attached. The parking lot on Thursday night had about 10 cars, while Friday and Saturday nights had 100-150 cars.Unfortunately,my room was on the first floor on Friday, and the noise from the exiting bar patrons did not end till 3am. I changed rooms to the 4th floor on Saturday and heard no bar or patron noise.

OK, But Nothing Special

This Howard Johnsons Plaza in Knoxville, TN, was acceptable, but not much more. The furnishings seemed a bit dated, but the bed was comfortable and the room was clean. We stayed on a Friday night before a football game so there were a gazillion college students partying into the wee hours. However, the hotel is pet friendly, a real plus because we traveled with our Rhodesian Ridgeback.

OK for short stay--needs renovation

I pretty much knew what to expect when I stayed at the Howard Johnson in Knoxville. I was by myself and would stay there again by myself, but because of the room appearance, I would not take my family there. It needs extensive renovation because of its age, but it is in a good location. Wallpaper was peeling and electrical outlets were hard to get to (I have to plug in a cpap machine). While looking for an outlet, I saw areas that needed attention. The staff was friendly and responsive, although the facilities in the bath did not work as well as expected. After reporting, it worked adequately for the rest of my stay. I did not use the restaurant or bar while I was there but happy hour seemed well attended.
