Pleasant stay

This in an older well maintained hotel with character. It is very close to the ETSU. The single king bed room I stayed in was spacious and clean. The bathroom was giant and in good condition. Having a restaurant there was very convenient. The granola plate was basic, but plenty filling and tasty enough for me. The workout room had a quality set of dumbbells, an incline bench (no barbell or nautilus) , and 6 or so aerobic machines (including two nice jogging machines) The Wifi was wonky my first day, but seemed to improve. Some key staff is younger which has good points and bad. Overall more good than bad.

vintage charm

while a bit on the high cost end, absolutely wonderful place for vintage charm. Staff and room excellent and pleasant. Downstairs spa worth going to, try the soothing serenity package, worth every penny and you will feel pampered and relaxed. Restaurant a bit pricey at breakfast, but so close to all kinds of restaurants and shopping with the mountains close by.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

Try lunch at the One Acre Cafe, 603 Walnut Street in Johnson City, 423) 483-0517. Open 11a - 2p. Awesome food, serving sizes for all appetites and the restaurant's concept for being is an idea for all communities and cities. Worth going to!

The best of Upper East Tennessee

This is a grand old southern hotel in the heart of Johnson City. The spa and restaurant, as well as the bar (with over 100 bourbons) are all world class with a price about half that of a larger city. The rooms are huge and the staff is as friendly and non-snooty as they come. I have nothing bad to say about the hotel but perhaps wish it had a pool for the children...but what a great place!

Excellent Stay!

Our experience at the Carnegie Hotel could not have been better. The rooms are both spacious and beautifully appointed. Our room had a king sized bed, large desk, furniture, and couch with plenty of room to walk around and relax for my husband, daughter, dog, and I. The bathroom was immaculate and huge, with double sinks, plenty of room to walk around, and a separate shower and large soaking tub. After coming staying here on a recent visit to see family, I will never stay anywhere else. The staff from the front desk to the bellhop to the cleaning crew were warm, friendly, and professional. The entire grounds were decorated so nicely and kept extremely clean. The restaurant downstairs was delicious, affordable, and convenient. The location is perfect-- across the street from ETSU, down the street from the hospital, in front of the VA hospital, and very close to the shops and restaurants of downtown Johnson City.

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

Tupelo Honey just opened a new restaurant in Johnson City and it is wonderful. I would also recommend Main Street Pizza - much more than a corner pizza joint.

great motel

the motel was great, but price O quote was deceitful. Quota $83.00, but could not see fine print, that you had to be a employee of the government, actual cost was $99.00 + tax. O did not list any other prices not impress with O
