Lovely Historic Hotel
Several years ago we lived in Greeneville and hadn't been back since 1997, so we drove around and checked out the area for changes. Greeneville has a lot of history and a lot of restaurants. All the staff at the General Morgan Inn were very friendly and kind. I would stay again and would very much suggest it to anyone wanting a lovely and historic vacation!

All The Charm of Yesteryear!
Being history fanatics, my wife & I made a spur of the moment decision to travel from northern Indiana to Greeneville Tn to enjoy a long weekend of antiquing and to tour historical sights, such as President Andrew Johnson's hometown. Since we never been to the area we took a chance and booked 2 evenings at the General Morgan Inn. How delighted we were with the grand old hotel! It has been tastefully renovated to keep the old inn's charm. The room we were in (#405) was spacious and the king size bed had the most comfortable mattress and linens. The room as well as the hotel itself was clean and the staff was friendly and very helpful. Sometimes old hotels can be a bit spooky but not this one...it had a very welcoming feel to it. We found the location of the hotel most convenient because it is located smack dab in the middle of it all, we walked everywhere, including the restaurants. Ask for a room with the view of all the quaint church steeples. All in all, we loved this hotel and can't wait to come back!

Within walking distance is the Tipton Cafe, a must do! Cheap and good and pure americana. The Monterey Mexican Restaurant is one of the best mexican restaurants we ever ate at!

Worth the return visit
This was my second stay at the General Morgan and as before I found the beds and pillow surprisingly plush and comfortable. I enjoy that this historic hotel has different rooms and it is a enjoyable experience to find the shape of the room and window different from before. It was a picturesque view from my second story room looking out over the old courthouse and the snow was falling and covering the shoulders and hat of the Confederate statue. I ate in the restaurant for the first time and found the grilled chicken breast with a cranberry chutney along with some she crab soup outstanding and a good price. Afterwards with a good old book found in my room I sat in front of the lobby fireplace and read "The Lost Horizon" a relaxing evening in a grand old hotel.

Wish I had stayed here sooner
I have been traveling to Greeneville for the past 12 years on business, usually staying along the main drag hotel/motels. I decided to stay at the General Morgan to be more downtown, small as it is, and away from highway noises. There prices appear to have been brought into alignment with other area hotels. It was the right choice. Very comfortable bed and a plethoria of good pillows. A good bar and tapas restaurant also. The hotel is lovely and historic and the walks downtown provide sightseeing pleasure before undiscovered. I would highly recommend.

The General Morgan Inn was a great blend of old and new. Our room was spacious, the bed was very comfortable, and the staff was both professional and very helpful. If you want a unique experience I would recommend this hotel.
