Great value for Gatlinburg center

River Terrace Resort, to my mind, deserves at least a 3.5 or even a 4. Our king room with balcony overlooking the river was spacious and clean with a comfortable bed, great shower and lots of hot water, micro-fridge, and stone gas-fireplace. Desk staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. All rooms have balconies; not all rooms overlook the river or have mountain views, both of which added immeasurably to our pleasure. (If you plan to be gone most of the day and evening you might prefer to save the money.) The location is perfect for a party of diverse activity interests: a short block from the Parkway and central to downtown-center; right next-door to the aquarium. As to perks, we would especially have liked a free hot breakfast. Parking's adequate but a bit tight--to be expected in a motel build into the hill. We had a great time and it was perfect for us.

Average

The room was clean, more space than some other places I have stayed. We were down there for a wedding and just needed a room for the night. It was clean, but a bit dated. The bathroom needs new counter tops to match the entry, really. The beds were soft and sunk in the middle. However, we were pretty much right on the strip, which is convenient for walking around, not so convenient if you wanted to sleep during the day, but perfectly fine at night.

Just a few blocks from it all, Good Location!

This was the most perfectly located hotel. Right below the downtown strip. Literally one block from it all. This is great! The all day SkyLift pass was wonderful, I recommend it. The room had a gas powered fireplace. i was happy we had access to use it in the month of August. made the room cozy and comfortable. We choose to get the upgraded river front hotel. That was nice. Plenty of parking, trash and towels taken out and replaced every day. The pool even had clean towels for guests. That is a plus. The pool was older but very clean. felt like fresh stream water, not smelling of pure chlorine. There is some water issues in the parking deck. The air conditioning units leak onto the car garage. Not too bad, but I did drop my pillow in it as i was loading up. Just a heads up. The only CON: I made arrangements to have the 11am check out and the message was not passed on. I received a 'friendly courtesy phone call' at 10:20am... That is never a good feeling. So I did feel rushed even though i should not have.

Gatlinburg Getaway

This hotel is quite dated - I felt like I had stepped back into the 70s. The mattress was as hard as a rock & parking was difficult due to so many buildings being located on one property. Water pressure from the shower head was minimal & the TV may have been older than I am. We only had 3 pillows on the bed for 2 people, so I was thankful I brought my own along. With that being said, the location is great! It's in the heart of Gatlinburg & maybe a 5 minute walk from the shopping strip. With a bridge located directly above the creek, you can feed the ducks or walk directly down to the creek to sit on a rock & put your feet in for a bit.

Money-saving tip: Short drive from hotel

If planning on walking the strip & then leaving via car for the rest of your day, turn right out of the hotel & almost directly across the street is just $2 parking! You can cut through a little alley of shops to get to the main strip with direct access to a fabulous candy shop & the famous Pancake Pantry restaurant.

Didn't live up to my expectations.

I was very unhappy with this hotel. The room I was given looked nothing like the one shown on their website. It was much smaller and quite shabby. When I brought this up to the hotel staff, I was told that the rooms didn't look like the photos any more, and I was offered an upgrade for $10. This room was much larger and nicer and had a jacuzzi...that didn't work. All in all, I was very disappointed in both the hotel and the lack of helpfulness and friendliness of the hotel staff.

Great Location....however..

Well, we booked through ORB about 2 hours before we got there and when we got there, the lady at the desk did not have the appropriate papers that she needed from ORB. She said I needed to contact ORB and figure out what was going on. So even though I had confirmation, no room. An hour later, I finally got what I needed to get a key. The ladies at the desk were clearly very nice but not sure what was going on. They were really trying to avoid my problem. They obviously don't like working through ORB because she tried to get me next time to come directly through them and pay $50 more per night. Duh!. Went to use the dryer and it took my money, the others were broke. So we hung up twine in our room from the curtain rod to the smoke alarm and dried our clothes. Furniture outdated in Building 7. When you walked into Building 7, there was this cleaning chemical smell where they obviously were trying to hide smoke or something. Bathtub had dirt stains in the bottom of it. I would say if you could get this room for about $49 per night, it would be worth all the headache.

Exactly what I expected

I booked this hotel at a great rate through a travel site. Based on the previous ratings/reviews I knew that this wasn't a luxurious hotel ( and given the fact that I have 2 young and rowdy children I didn't need luxury). The room was neat and clean. Staff ensured that it stayed that way and that we had plenty of towels. The only negative thing i could say is that the shower drain was slow. Pool was fine. Good view and great location. As I stated in the title of this review, this hotel was exactly what I wanted...clean comfort at an affordable price! We will stay here again in the future.

Nightlife tip: Short walk from hotel

The strip is loaded with all sorts of performances (free) and moonshine distillerys that allow you to sample lots of flavors. i think we visited 3 in all. We had a blast walking down the strip and enjoyed a nice night for next to nothing!
