Not bad for a quick stay

Recently stayed one night here with my hubby and 2 teenaged girls. It was a last minute deal so we got a great rate thanks to all the discounts we got on it from the travel site we booked through. The room was quaint with poster beds and a fireplace with stone hearth and mantel. The balcony overlooking the beautiful stream was great. Beds and pillows were ok. Bed felt comfortable and not too hard but both my hubby and I woke with aching backs, sooo I dunno. The room has a peculiar smell that's not exactly pleasant. I think it's the carpet maybe but they should check into whatever they use on that and find something more 'freshening'. Pretty sure it used to be a smoking hotel and maybe it's the residual smell from that, mixed with freshener? Location was good, very close to downtown but not right in the midst - maybe a half mile or so away. There's a Flapjacks breakfast place directly across the street #with a crosswalk# so that's a plus. We didn't eat there but it was nice to know it was there and I mention it because it's nice for others to know as well. None of us hated it and it was ok for a quick stay but I wouldn't do an extended stay here.

Shopping tip: Short drive from hotel

If you haven't been to Gatlinburg or haven't been in a few years, you should know that the shops on the main drag have become mostly cheap tacky stuff like found on many beach boardwalks these days. There are still a few good shops but mostly it's cheap stuff, fake stuff and neon iron-on t-shirts galore. That was disappointing. Didn't stay long enough to see where the finer shops are now located.

Have been staying here for years

Booked at Brookside for a night in downtown gatlinburg before meeting friends at a cabin outside town. All rooms have balconies overlooking a large stream- very relaxing. Good value considering location and breakfast.

Nice hotel for the price, very helpful staff

Was a nice hotel in a good location close to downtown. Had a nice creek view in the back and the room was clean. Bed and pillows was comfortable. Was a nice stay and hotel room for the price. The staff was extra friendly and helpful considering this site didn't even send my confirmation info and got lucky they had one other room left that wasn't the one I reserved.

Don't do it!

Let me start out by saying that I have never given a hotel or other type establighment a bad review. However, I booked a room at the Brookside Resort in Gatlinburg, TN over New Years. I booked the room for 3 nights and only stayed the first night. I was traveling with a child and learned that they had reserved a room with one bed for us. After learning that this would not work in our situation, we were moved to another room, which had not been cleaned at the time we checked in (after 5pm). When I called the front desk to inform them that the room had not been cleaned, I was asked if we could just stay there and wait for the room to be cleaned the following day. Really??? The beds had been slept in and there was trash all over the room. So then they told me that they could have the room cleaned in about 30 minutes if we could wait. So I agreed. When we returned to the room, the beds had been made and the room appeared to have been cleaned. We went into town and returned to the room to sleep later that night. When we opened the refrigerator, there were nasty plates of food in there, which we took out of the room and to the trash. I attempted, without success, to log onto the wi-fi. So we decided to go to bed. When i pulled the bedspread back - the sheets were threadbare and dirty and the mattress could be seen through them. There was no mattress pad and the sheet constantly popped off of the mattress during the night. We both started to itch as soon as we got into the bed. The next morning, I had approximately 19 bites on my body. Not sure it the bites were from bed bugs or from fleas as some of the rooms are pet friendly. I got dressed and went into Pigeon Forge to find a room for the remaining 2 nights. At this point, I'm just hoping I have not infested my home with the bugs from that room. I went to the office and told them I was checking out early and gave them the cards to the room. They never even inquired as to why i was cutting my stay short, but simply accepted the cards.............nothing said. I travel frequently and have stayed at hotels that were not quite up to standards, but........never have I encountered such deplorable conditions and such apathy from the staff as I encountered during my one night stay at the Brookside Resort. Please, do yourself a favor and stay as far away from this "resort" as possible. I wish I had paid more attention to the reviews before having the first two days of my trip ruined. I gave this hotel one star simply because it would not allow me to give it no stars.

Poor experience

The heat did not work for two of the three nights. There were bugs in the room. Maid service did not clean our room but once. We had to call for clean towels. Will NOT stay there again, nor would we recommend to anyone.

Interesting Little Hotel

This is a sort of old fashioned rustic looking place, two pools, one with slide two slide and a playground. My son, 10 years old, and I needed a place to collapse after a long hike in the mountains and this was just right.
