The hotel was beautiful. The beds were amazing. I slept better than I normally do in hotels. Starbucks coffee in the rooms. It was quiet. The staff was very nice. I chose it for the excellent location downtown. I would definitely stay again.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

There is a restaurant in the hotel that looks very nice, but there are several other options for dining and entertainment within a very short walk. Downtown Chattanooga is beautiful.

Weekend

This is a historic hotel and the lobby is gorgeous. However, the rooms are spacious but in need of renovations and the bathrooms are very small. For the price I paid, I expected a better room. The walls are thin and you can hear everything that goes on in the hallway.

YOU CAN'T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER

After reading several reviews we where looking forward to our stay at the Read house we walked into the lobby and it was beautiful but that was the highlight of our stay. our room was very small and held a strong musty stale odder and the refrigerator in the room was on the floor at the foot of the bed there was no tub in the room only a shower and when you used it. it would flood the bathroom floor. the air-conditioning did not work well when I reported it to the front desk they stated that it was the older section of the hotel and it used a water chiller for air-conditioning and that if your room was located on an upper floor and to the outside that it didn't work very well which let me know that they where aware of the problem but booked the room anyway. I told the front desk person that it would make it difficult for me to sleep with the room being so warm but he made no effort to move me to a better room. I told my wife that it was already late and that we would have a hard time getting a room at another hotel so we decided to try and make the best of it. So we decided to go down for a swim to cool off and relax and what greets us at the entrance to the pool but an out of order sign I looked at my wife and said how much worst can it get and I found out when I had to go down 6 floors just to get ice. the only good thing was the bed was comfortable but I had to sleep on top of the covers to keep from sweating.

Beautiful interior and location

Great place to stay if you're going a lot in Chattanooga. The tiny issues I had were one room had some cigarette smoke wafts every now and again and the second room I stayed at had a shower curtain too small and the water spilled out. Other than that the beds were comfy, plenty of TV to cruise through and it's right on the free electric bus line that makes it easy to get out and about. The staff was kind, almost TOO kind. Very helpful and attentive. I'd recommend it if you're not looking to save too much money but want something a bit nicer then the standard hotel room.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Sugars BBQ. Oh my good gracious is it good. Affordable and amazing staff! Ate there twice and I ate a lot of places! Get yourself a margarita to beat the heat. They make it with fresh lime juice and agave syrup!

Good location, but...

Stayed there for a friend's wedding, from our room we could hear the valet parking area, elevator, people slamming doors to rooms, and other guests in their room. The housekeeping staff was very poor, they did not clean the room during a 3 hour window that we called and requested, ran out of towels, and provided an unsatisfactory experience. The valet and desk staff were very friendly and helpful, and the hotel was dated, but nice. Excellent location in downtown.

Front desk great, valet not so much

Had 2 great experiences with front desk personnel--at check in, I had arrived way early, like 11am, and the young lady was able to clear me to check in early---big help. And check-out very pleasant. The valet was not very helpful or cheerful on check-out. I had just a rolling cart, and he didn't even offer to put in in my back seat, even though I was obviously needing assistance with it. And this was after giving him a very generous tip. The in-house restaurant, Porters Steakhouse gets mixed reviews. The service was quite good, but my Kobe burger was way over-done. Their menu actually recommended having it prepared medium, which I asked for, but it was a ruined well-done. Shame on you, Porters! The hotel is very well appointed on the lobby floor, including a spacious full-service Starbucks.
