Super 8 Spearfish

Very ordinary. Highway exit from the west directs you ten miles north in wrong direction, you will return ten miles south and then take another exit a few more miles down I-90. Get location info before arrival.

Our unexpected experience began when we arrived at the desk. We reserved the larger suite and confirmed a second time with a personal call to them a week before. When we arrived and spoke to the person at the counter they said we have to move you to a standard room because when you book through a thrid party like Orbitz thats the chance you take. Then went on to say: They (Orbitz) always overbook us and we did our best to get you a room period and made it sound like we should just be greatful we had a room. I asked if some sort of refund was available and again they nastily referred to the thrid party booking through orbitz and said to take it up with them. Thankfully we got our reserved room the next day but.... All our luggage had to moved the next day but only after the party there checked out after 11:00. Later that night we discovered the queen beds were actually double or full size and not what we paid for. When we asked the manager about the bed size she said: according to the company we ordered them from they are queen size. I promise they were not queen size beds! Again no jester of refund or compensation. Our room had a sitting area with 2 recliners. One had a white stain on the seat cushion (crotch area) and was never cleaned. We through a towel over it, Uuck! I would never recommend this Super 8 motel in Spearfish S.D. to anyone. If you go good luck, you will need it! We will probably report them to the Better Business Bureau.

Everyone was very curtious and helpful. Nice sized room and pool area was nice as well. Enjoyed my stay.

Better than many Super 8 motels

We were very excited to get there after a very long 5 hours in the truck with the kids. When we arrived the staff was very friendly but told me there was not another access in the back which would be closer to our room so we hauled the mountain of things through the front and up the stairs to the back of the hotel where our room was located only to find out after that there was actually a door right down the haul from our room. That was only the start of my frustrations. When my son used the restroom he freaked out because there was a few large bugs crawling in the bathtub. During the removal process of the bugs I saw all the mold in the tub around the spicket. Then I noticed the mold on the shower curtain and how dirty it was. You could see where water had run on the curtain and actually washed away the grime. The paint was peeling above the shower and what appeared to be mold spots that were simply painted over. We decided to turn on the A/C because it was so humid and hot in the room from the pool but that was a big mistake. Hot air was all that came out and the horrible smell of mildew. I overheard another guest complaining about their A/C also and the staff member simply said, "oh". I layed my daughter on the bed only to find bugs on it. My son then decided he had to go swimming so we went. BIG mistake. The pool had bugs in it too and there were a few times I stepped on something slimy or they floated by me. DISGUSTING!!! We were only able to stay in there for a few minutes because there was so much chlorine(I guess they do that instead of cleaning it) that we burned and itched. For the price of these rooms I expected ALOT more. I would never stay there again and advise the same for you and your family. I think they should lower their prices to $29.99 per night instead of $80.00 per night.

The Super 8 Spearfish was one of the nicest motels that we have stayed in when we have traveled to South Dakota. The staff was extremely friendly and accomodating. The housekeeping staff do a superb job. My hats off to them. I would definitely stay there again.
