Banging hall door and carpet that looked like an army marched over it
Most of the amenities were as described and the room was clean. However, the hall door banged a few hundred times a day right next to our room, the hall carpet was in shreds and there were a few bugs in our room.
The staff was quite helpful; I
received two packages during our stay and they let me know immediately, so that was a real plus.
We were pleased that the hotel let us check in early because we had a wedding to attend in the early afternoon and wanted to freshen up. We were saddened that we paid $150 to be placed in a separate, two story building that was unconnected to the
actual hotel. The staff said that the rooms were newer and the beds were better than those in the hotel proper, and if that was true, then the main bedrooms must have been terrible. The beds and pillows were not comfortable, the room was rather small and dingy, the plaster on the walls was cracking...it is what you would expect in a far less expensive hotel. The best part? It sounded as though the neighbors were right there in our room. The walls were so thin they may as well have just turned the back house into a dorm. If I had been traveling alone, I would not have felt particularly safe. This hotel is not located in a "good' part of Rapid City, yet the window, which was at ground level, seemed insecure. It was a very poor night's sleep. For the price, we would not return.
Upsides- The breakfast looked pretty good, though I didn't eat because there were so many people in the breakfast room that there was nowhere to sit and it was very uncomfortable in there. Since we were in the back house, we had to walk across the parking lot to get there.
The kids in the pool looked like they were having fun.
