A Totally Awesome Place!
We had left another hotel in rapid city b/c of the cruddy, gross room and exterior. We went to the howard johnson, which was a better deal anyhow, and were very impressed! The rooms were so clean and fresh and the pool was awesome! We were so happy and impressed with the hotel and staff, we will surely stay at the ho-jo again! The cont breakfast was awesome and healthy too, which really helps with cost of travel with all of the kiddos in tow!

Great location, great value
Room was comfortable and spacious for working during a business trip. Room was clean and well maintained. Staff was friendly. Breakfast was very good with plenty of selection. Great value for a reasonable rate.

I can always expect excellent quality service from Howard Johnson's in Rapid City.
I wanted a room with a view and they were quick to accomodate me. I will always stay at Howard Johnson's first. My favorite room is 419!!!!!!

Comfortable and close to downtown
The hotel was comfortable, with a nice pool and 2 hot tubs (a bit too hot)available for guests. The price was very reasonable, especially considering that we were there during peak season. The hotel is close to downtown, but too far away to actually walk to any attractions other than the civic center. It was a nice change of pace from the noisier hotel areas by I-90.

This was one stop on a road trip that included stays at 4 different hotels and of the four this one I would rate as third best. The location was okay for easy access to the freeways and the areas I visited. The hotel has the standard average linen (paper thin and washed thousands of times, 2 of the other hotels had good quality linen), it did lack some of the things I would consider basics for hotels of quality, such as a microwave for one (and a mini fridge would be nice 1 hotel did have both) I was also surprised that for the size of the hotel there was no restaurant in the building. The worst part of the stay for me was coming back to the room after being gone all day and finding that they had cleaned the room but did not replenish the supply of basics including coffee (which was not the best but I am a coffee drinker and got to have it) They also did not give me any cups to drink out of (not even for water) and there was no bag for the ice bucket. I had to go to the front desk and ask for the stuff that they did not leave in the room, a bag for the ice bucket, some cups to drink out of and some coffee so I could have a cup in the morning. Overall compared to the other places we stayed I would not stay there again. The room was not cheap and with some improvements it would be a first class place and worth the stay.

This is a tourist town and there is a lot to see and do close by plan for 2 days if you really want to enjoy all there is to see and do

There is nothing special in Rapid City but this city is perfect if you are travelling to see the National Parks. It is in the center of Mt. Rushmore, Badlands, Devil's Tower and dozens of other surrounding parks.
