The Bates Motel

Well, we were going on a Black Hills vacation, coming in from the West on I-90, and wanted to see the badlands, so we picked the closest hotel to the badlands along Interstate 90.The hotel was the nicest in town (which isn't saying much at ALL). The town was very small, only one gas station, 2 roadside hotels, and a run down resturant. We checked in and had one of the rudest, most incompetent desk clerks I've ever encountered. He was like Norman Bates, only creepier. I'm not sure if he was trying to be funny, but everything he said was discomforting. [...]The room itself wasn't bad - nothing to brag about either, but it had good AC, and decent beds. They advertised HBO, but HBO was scrambled, and the tv only picked up about 5 stations clearly - the rest were fuzzy at best. The bathroom wasn't bad at all.The next morning, we went downstairs for the "continental breakfast" to find only 4 tables, all of which were being used, and a sign on the door that said "no food or drink is to leave the breakfast area". So we stood there, waiting for a table to open up. The breakfast was pretty sparce too - only some fresh fruit, cereal, Sunny D, coffee, bread, jelly and day old bagels.Bottom line, if you MUST stay in Kadoka, you're probably better off here than across the road, but I'd suggest pushing on to Wall, or staying in Chamberlain instead.Bottom line, this room was NOT worth what I paid for it.

Eat before you get here, and bring something along for breakfast, or hit the gas station next door for something to tide you over till you get to Wall.
