It suited our needs.

It was a nice place to stay. We did a lot of stuff in other areas in the Black Hills during the day,so we only needed the hotel to sleep. It had what wee needed to sleep, keep food/snacks cold, microwave, typical hotel stuff. It could have used updating, but I was on vacation to be out and enjoying things not worrying about my hotel room. The gal that checked us in on 8/5 was so nice and pleasant to visit with. She was definitely an asset to the place.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Don't eat at Wooly's next door. The food was undercooked and looked like it came out of a box.

nice comfortable hotel

clean, comfortable rooms. the clerks at check-in and check out were friendly. the only complaint we had was the in-room coffee had no flavor, but maybe that's just the way the one-cup pots taste because of the speed at which it brews. the coffee w/the continental breakfast was good though. Loved the fact that they had a computer for guest use for those without a laptop.

Good Price

I found the room clean, with a microwave and a refrigerator. There were adequate coffee supplies and towels. There was no remote for the TV but I didn't watch it anyway. The heating did not seem to have a thermostat which was somewhat inconvenient and there was a giant light outside my window aimed right at it. The curtain blocked most of the light but it was still annoying. The breakfast was nothing special, cereal and toast. It served the purpose of a clean place to sleep. I would recommend this hotel as a place to crash if you have a lot of other things to do and don't plan on spending time in the room.

Coup de grace

This was hands down the best place we stayed at on our vacation. The room was excellent - fridge, microwave, TV with a full channel list, nice big vanity area, nice shower. The continental breakfast had a great selection, and there were more than enough tables to accomodate the people who were staying there. It was litterally right next door to the Mammoth dig site, which was an amazing experience to see. The staff was very helpful giving directions to area attractions. The view from the hotel was absolutely amazing, with cliffs and striations galore right out the windows. The only complaints I have were that the air conditioner kept making a squeaking noise when the compressor would kick in, and it was rather irritating trying to sleep with it happening, and there are not a lot of places to eat in Hot Springs (which really isn't the fault of the hotel's.) It's pretty much either Dairy Queen, Subway, or one of the restaurants, but be warned! most of the dine in restaurants close by 9 pm! Bottom line, this was an excellent place to stay, a great rate, a beautiful location, and worth every penny.

The Mammoth site is only a short walk up a hill, and it is absolutely amazing - an actual fossil dig site! Evan's Plunge is only a short drive from the hotel, and it's a lot of fun and very interesting!

Not that great

The hotel was pleasant enough, especially the staff. The breakfast was meager in choices. But worst of all, the motel hall way and rooms smelled like my grandparents' basement, a bit musty with left over cigarette smoke. Buy some Febreez, people!

One of the worst Super 8s.

We booked a non-smoking room for our family. We have two small children and my husband is allergic to cigarette smoke. I also made a special request for a non-smoking room. Not only did our room reek of smoke it was not very clean. Continental Bkfst was not too fantasic either. This Super 8 was one of the worst we have stayed in. I guess from now on we will only look for "Pride of Super 8". I can't say anything good about our stay here except that [...]
