This hotel needs a new manager

The hotel itself is ok, but they really need a new manager. When we reserved online, we requested two non-smoking rooms. When we arrived, we were told that we would be getting smoking rooms. The manager stated that "(online reservation company, name deleted) does that to people all the time", and that she couldn't change it...even though we were nearly the only guests at the hotel. She went on to say that "no one should use (online reservation company) to make a reservation", and continued on to tell us how bad reserving on line was and that we should know better. One of our party has a breathing issue, and absolutely cannot stay in a smoking room. We did eventually get her to issue us non-smoking rooms, but only after threatening to go somewhere else and dispute the room charges with our credit card company. In my opinion, unnecessary rudeness and terrible customer service on the part of the manager.

This is a tiny, tiny town. Not much here, and nothing stays open late. Best bar/restaurant we found was The Vault. Good beer, good food, great service.

Excellent Place to Stay in Hot Springs, SD

We actually thought we were staying at a different location but this Best Western in Hot Springs was extremely nice. It is downtown but very value priced for such a location in the Black Hills.

Last night in Hot Springs

Entire pool was 1 meter deep, but it was great for kids. Chemicals were perfectly regulated and temperature was spot on.

Dales Family Restaurant by Evans Plunge. You gotta try the buttermilk pancake(1) for breakfast. The lunch/supper choices are great too. Home cooking.

Nice rooms, no elevator

Printer was broken at check in, so no receipt. No elevator. Other than that there is no reason to avoid this inn. Everything else was very nice. The breakfast attendant was nice and helpful.

Good Stop over Spot

Hotel was very nice. Nice size rooms, centrally located in town, very friendly staff. There was an employee in the breakfast room chatting with everyone and had lots of great information on what to do in the area. The only compliant we had is that we were given a room equipped for handicap without being asked - showers are not as nice. I think all hotels could be more proactive in helping advertise restaurants in the area especially when you hit an area like Hot Springs where some things had closed for the season.

Sightseeing tip: Not Applicable

Watch if you are planning to travel in off season. Many places advertised throughout Black Hills area that they would be open until end of October. However, because the weather had cooled and tourists had dropped off, some things just closed early. Hard to plan a trip! So just be cautious of this aspect.
