Great location for a not so great hotel

Spent the last night of our camping trip in the Black Hills in this hotel to get some rest before out long drive home. We arrived early and we were allowed to check in, but the woman at the front desk ([...]) was not at all friendly or welcoming. In fact, I found her to be down right rude. We requested and were given a smoke free room, but the entire hotel reeked of smoke. The room was very small and I was disgusted to find fingernail clippings on the floor near our bed. The pool was tiny and freezing and the hot tub had a disgusting ring of scum around it. I would say that you get what you pay for, but in this case, we paid over $150 for one night and felt that we should have gotten a much better experience for that kind of money.

Marginal Rooms

Ok, but not the cleanest. Rooms were small, no refrigerator, and only one usuable outlet. We had to charge our cell phone in the bathroom.

Super 8 Motel Hill City/Mt Rushmore/Area

Would have liked a better selection at the continential breakfast (fruit of any kind, yogurt, oatmeal, anything hot such as waffles or eggs, mini packets of butter and jam versus the self-serve containers)

Centrally Located in the Black Hills

The hotel had a great location. Centrally located near many of the sites in the black hills. The pool was small and often crowded, but it still got the job done. There was a nice continental breakfast in the mornings, and the staff was friendly and helpful.

Tourist

The hotel was within walking distance of all the local attractions that Hill City had to offer. The room appeared very clean but the bed was very hard and the pillows... well bring your own. The hall ways of the hotel smelled like smoke but the room was definitely kept non-smoking. The pool was about the size of three hot tubs and the excercise room was a joke. The front desk clerk was polite and people in the town were also very nice.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

The staff at the Desperado restraunt were very nice and made us feel very important even when they were very busy. Another place you may want to try is the Alpine Inn I did not get to eat htere because they were closed, but my uncle told me the food was wonderful. The 1880 train was also a great experience.

Good sleep, good price

We ran into a snag from orbits misbooking our stay, but the staff took care of the matter with no problem. The room was clean, bathroom was updated. Decent price and in a good location to all the sights. Quiet little town (during the weekday when were were there in mid May).

Nice staff

The staff was very helpful in giving us directions and making us feel welcome. The room was as good as a Super 8 gets. It was clean, everything worked, and the beds were standard Super 8 comfort. The location was excellent to all activities. A convenience store was right next door which made it easy for us to get various items. Since this is a high traffic tourist area, the Super 8 seemed to have one of the best rates around. I would highly recommend it for the value conscious traveler.

Entertainment tip: Short walk from hotel

The 1880 train was right across the street. Desparado's restaurant was one block up and was very nice. Shopping was in the same block as was other restaurants.
