Awesome family place close to Rushmore!
Our family of 5 was traveling thru the Mt. Rushmore area and we were looking for a good deal on a hotel close to the monument. (It is only 5 miles from the monument) I wasn't aware when I booked it that it was at a KOA...this is one of the best KOA's I have ever seen. It could be on a movie! In the newsletter that they give you at check in it says they do family reunions...it would be an awesome place for a family reunion. You are in the middle of the Black Hills forest. There is a general store, a lodge, a restaurant, little shops, more than one pool, great camping, atv trails and rentals, a playground and more!! We stayed at the lodge for only $50 which included a continental breakfast and there was a balcony overlooking the campground and forest...we can't wait to go back!! This won the Presidential award from KOA for a very good reason!

There is a restaurant right on the property but check the time it closes before you go to Mt. Rushmore...we missed the closing time by 15 minutes!

Good location and great scenery
We were there for the Sturgis Rally and for what we wanted to do, the location, scenery and accommodations were great! The lodge was clean, close to other attractions, employees were friendly and provided information we needed when requested. I would recommend this to friends and family and would stay there again.

Short drive from hotel
There is a restaurant on the premises that serves all 3 meals. Many attractions would only require a short drive and the scenery would provide good picnic areas.

Great Location
Great location near Mt. Rushmore, Hill City and other scenic areas we wanted to visit. Room was very confortable and we liked the balcony. Restaurant and other eateries were on grounds plus small grocery store, pizza, ice cream etc. Even though it was the Sturgis Motorcycle gathering, everyone was polite and thoughtful of those around them that were not in town for the gathering.

My review of The Lodge at Palmer Gulch
Great location for the Mt. Rushmore area if you prefer being not right in the midst of the hustle and bustle of either Keystone or Raid City. Located just west of the monuments, convenient to either Mt Rushmore, Crazy horse or Hill City. Relatively new lodge in a rustic setting part of large KOA campground. Plenty for the kids to do as well as adult type activities. Staff was cheerful and helpful.
