One Fine Traveler
Great Location
Great location to visit Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial and Custer State Park. The staff was very helpful and courteous. The room was a bit dated and not as nice as we expected. Didn't use the pool or fitness center, so, we can't comment on that. The breakfast was okay but we expected better based on previous reviews.

Silver Dollar Saloon has great pizza. Don't be put off by it's appearance. The Alpine Inn had good steak at a reasonable price.

Golden Spike
We were very happy and had no complaints what so every with this facility. Our room was within 30 feet of the pool and exercise facilities. The room was clean with a frig. and microwave. The room that we were in opened to the outside, but there were some rooms that opened to the inside as well. If you prefer a room that opens to the inside I would request that when booking. They have a morning breakfast buffet that was pretty good. If I were asked to rate it I would say that the breakfast buffet was average.

Short drive from hotel
Hill City is about in the middle of the blackhills and is therefore a great location and the Golden Spike was a good facility. We stayed there for 4 nights and drove each day to the part of the blackhills that we were interested in going to. Also the 1880 train departs from Hill City for Keystone. If this is something that you want to do I would recommend that you stay in Keystone for a couple of hours then reboard the train to return to Hill City, the train seats get a little hard and uncomfortable if you non stop it. As far as the attractions go it was easy to get to both Rushmore and Crazy Horse from Hill City. If you are up for a challenging hike that has the most amazing view then hike to the top of Harney Peak; it is right there within minutes of Hill City. Unless the traffic is bad it never took us more than 40 minutes max to get to anything that we were interested in. Hill City is a neat little town in a great location to explore the blackhills and the Golden spike was a good facility to base our traveling out of.

Friendly staff
Staff was very helpful and friendly and early check in was a breeze. The location was really quiet. So, I was able to have a relaxing time.

Best Western Golden Spike
The staff were helpful, the pool great and the Mother's Day brunch at the restaurant on site was okay, though our server was excellent. The only real complaint was the heating unit in the room, it was absolutely, utterly, incredibly NOISY, we all slept very little that evening!

Anyone visiting Hill City needs to eat at the Alpine Inn, the best, least expensive filets anywhere. Bring cash or checkbook, they don't take credit card. Really great food, service and desserts (homemade)!

Adequate accommocation
Location of hotel was good for seeing the Mt. Rushmore area. The room was spacious, but the bathroom (toilet & tub/shower) was quite tight - the sink was outside of the bathroom. The service was very good - everyone was very congenial. However, the food left a lot to be desired, but it wasn't costly. My husband's dinner (beef frajitas) looked like road kill - all dried out. I'd skip the buffet for breakfast, as it was either dry or from a package & tasteless. Ordering separate items from the menu was a better choice, even tho' not fantastic. However, one thing amazed us out at other restaurants - no one served vegetables except for potatoes & a wedge of iceberg lettuce w/dressing.

Outside of eating at the Alpine restaurant (where you can only get filet mignon (which is very good & cheap in price), go to Custer & try the Cattleman restaurant - there are several other choices for restaurants there as well, unlike in Hill City where the hotel is located.

We could not have had a better accomodation, our room was perfect. The restaurant, coffee shop/bakery and check-in and shop were all pretty, and very handy for our needs. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay there agan!

The Alpine Inn Restaurant was special indeed! We ate there as often as possible. It has great food, atmosphere and prices. The restaurant has rustic elegance with classical music, but so relaxed, not stuffy nor pretentious and lovely staff.

VERY FRIENDLY - We are grateful for the excellent hospitality given to us.
The staff could not have ben more hospitable and friendly. The dining was excellent and the room service was good. Comfort and care were certainly displayed by the staff who always conveyed they were there to serve the needs of guest. I would return again and would refer others to your establishmnet.
