Weekend getaway
The location is great. Had a problem with housekeeping, our room didn't did not get serviced or cleaned after our first night. The front desk person was not willing to help me out at all, but I finally demanded the Manager and she credited me $30.

Mainstreet Deadwood
The hotel is situated right in the middle of the action in the downtown district of Deadwood. The amenties are everything we have grown to expect from an Express. The gal that was in charge of the breakfast bar was very personable and kept the area clean and fresh. The beds are very easy on the back and sleep was instant. We always like the fact that we can adjust our own room temp. The flat screen tv was a nice added attraction along with the ability to have wi-fi accessibility.

In Hotel
It's always nice to have the casino in the hotel so that you don't have to brave the cold weather found in Deadwood after the first of the year. The New Year Eve Celebration just up the street is enjoyable if you have never been.

Absolute Perfect Getaway
You have to leave the premises to get something to eat (other than breakfast provided), even in bad weather. You have to walk 2 blocks to the garage and when you are not in the best of health and elderly or disabled, that doesn't work - and if you leave something in the car, you have to walk that back and forth instead of going into a hotel garage. The staff at the front desk did not greet us with a smile or even words. We had to speak. When we had to ask for toilet paper in the room, the person covering the front desk seemed "put out". Would never stay there again.

Don't Stay Here
The hotel cost more than the Trump Tower in Vegas, but was a dingy old building. Our room smelled like smoke covered with an awful air freshener, and there was no way to ventilate the smell out of the rooms. The location is right on Main Street in Deadwood, but that just means you hear drunk people at night on the streets, and in the halls of the hotel. Most stressfully, we were given incorrect information (on phone, and in person) about where to park our Jeep and the Uhaul trailer it was pulling, so we had quite a time U-turning out of the incorrect, small lot and moving it to a lot with schoolbuses five or six blocks away.

Enjoyed the Stop
We hit Deadwood middle of October so it was quiet. Would have liked more stores open but with tourism down that time of year it is understandable. People were very friendly, especially the travelers we met at breakfast each morning. Breakfast is the best at the Holiday Inn Expresses with a lot more choices than most continental breakfasts. Room was clean and nice. A little hard to get suit case cart in elevator and some people might not like that you have to park you car a block or so away from the hotel.

Short walk from hotel
Ask around for best places to eat. We were very disappointed with Kevin Costner's place as it was suppose to be a sports bar/restaurant. They had tv's but it really isn't a sports bar and food was not very good.

Gold Dust Holiday Inn Express
This hotel is smack dab in the middle of Deadwood's Main st, right where the action is. If you're driving there, it's a bit tricky, since Lee street is a one way. Save yourself time and effort, don't go down Main, continue on highway 85 and turn North on Lee. They'll give you an RFID card for the parking garage for a $10 refundable deposit. Word to the wise--pay attention to the parking and exit signs in the garage (i went the wrong way down a one way), and if you park way on the westernmost side, you can walk out onto the alley, which leads you right back to the Holiday Inn's front door! The Gold Dust buffet is worthwhile, especially since the hotel gives you a buy one get one free coupon upon check in.

Short walk from hotel
The Bodega across the street is a pretty happening nightclub, the Franklin, the Silverado and the Midnight Star are very nice. We could find roulette only at the Franklin, Poker is quite popular.
