Found cheaper rooms on [...] than the hotel could give us. It's the cheapest place to stay in Deadwood and it's a good, ... clean hotel too. It's on the edge of town which is good with us. It's difficult to find the rooms but once you understand the navigation, you can figure it out.

The parking lot needs to be adjusted to fit bigger vehicles like my F150. I understand the limitations due to the ... geography. The room was more than I expected...great bathroom, hot water and comfortable. Bed was the best I have slept in for a long time. Price was good for last minute booking.

Mari Oct 8, 2009
I was in town for a court date. I reserved 2 rooms for a total of 6 people. I needed handicap accessible units given that I ... am wheelchair bound. I have to say that this was by far one of the best and most comfortable trip I have EVER taken after I been on a wheelchair. The rooms were spacious and the bathroom was appropriate. The staff was very helpful and friendly as well. I will definitely stay here again.

POOR CHOICE FOR DEADWOOD
James Livingston Oct 3, 2009
We chose this hotel for its price & the fact it advertises as a "PET FRIENDLY" hotel. We found the location to be OK but it ... is not within walking distance to downtown Deadwood, unless you like walking a few miles. Upon check in it was a great surprise that the hotel charged an additional $27.13 for having a small Chihuahua with us. After paying the additional fee, we we banished to "Building # 2" (up 4 floors then take the walkway, then follow the prompts, blah, blah, blah) Upon entering the room, we were almost knocked over by the smell of stale smoke. We called down to customer service to find out how to connect to the internet and it was then disclosed there was no internet available for our room (ROOM advertised as having high speed internet). To top it of we were awakened at 7am to the BEEP BEEP BEEP of heavy machinery working and backing up! They were doing construction right outside the door. This was the worst hotel experience we ever had. I left a message with the hotel supervisor but her never called back. Please Take my advise, find a better hotel to stay at, this one sucks!

The buffet price was very reasonable . The walking distance to other places was a bit far , but took the trolly which is a ... very good thing for Deadwood since the parking is limited. The various tours are a must see if you like history. This trip was overall one of the best trips we have taken.

We used Deadwood as our base to see the main attractions of the area including Mt Rushmore,Spearfish Canyon Drive,Devils ... Tower Wyoming,Crazy Horse(not that great),and the BadLands(about a hundred miles from where we stayed in Deadwood). We would probably been better off staying in the Rapid City Area to see these attractions and then just visited Deadwood one day.

Nothing Jul 4, 2009
Staff was very unhelpful and not polite. We NEVER had access to long distance calls even though we were told that we could ... make long distance calls. We asked several times until we finally gave up. We wanted to cancel our one night reservation (out of two nights scheduled) and we were told that we couldn't cancel!!!! It was too far to walk to the downtown so we had to pay for transportation to get to the downtown. It just wasn't a good experience.

Deadwood is no longer a 'family oriented town'. Every establishment in the town has been converted to a casino with the exception of 3 or 4 souvenir shops. We visited this town some 22 or so years ago when it was nothing more than a starving tourist stop over. If cambling is what you want, this town has it minus the Vegas hype and shows.

Nice new room
Robert May 23, 2008
We were very satisfied with our whole experience at the First Gold Hotel & Casino in Deadwood, SD. Our room was large ... enough, new, and clean. Hotel staff were cordial and friendly. The hotel restaurant was very busy the night we ate there, and it seemed they were somewhat short of staff at our time, but we didn't mind the wait. And when our order finally arrived, the food was very good and at a good price. The next morning we again ate at the hotel restaurant - the .79 cent breakfast. It was excellend, and of course, a more than fair price. This time, our order came out at a reasonable time. The casino, as most in Deadwood, is somewhat small, but has a good variety of slots, and enough card game table to handle everyone. Overall, as stated, we were very satisfied with our stay there.

a lot of rooms at this hotel
Kevin Jul 14, 2007
The hotel was nice and they are expanding. We had a great view in our room as it faced Deadwood but one of our card keys ... didnt work and the staff was not very friendly when my wife went to get a new one. Also, the shower drain did not drain very well and the desk clerk said someone would come fix it right away but it was never fixed.
Traveler type: Couples
The hotel is off the main street and although a walk is doable to downtown deadwood, there is also a trolley that costs a dollar to get up and down Deadwood which could be convenient. It is probably about a mile or more to the other end of town and it can get hot if you are walking in the day.
