Flea motel

Our room was horrible. Tub dirty, hair on towel bar, cracks in walls and ceilings and fleas. My daughter was bitten several times. We checked out at 11 pm and went elsewhere. Would not even let a dog stay there. Worst motel I have ever stayed at even for only 4 hours.

Captain George's....best restaurant in Myrtle Beach. Had fantastic buffet and can also order from menu. Had large selection of different seafood as well as prime rib, pork, chicken, vegetables and salads. Largest selection of desserts I have ever seen on a buffet. Staff hospitable and friendly. Well worth the money.

Most DISGUSTING Hotel I Have Ever Seen!!

My fiancé and I attended the South Carolina Fire Confrence this weekend in Myrtle Beach. Due to our attendance, we needed to book a room and I researched the available places online. I booked a room with your Summer Wind on Orbitz.com. The rate was acceptable at about $100 per night for a beachfront property, and the pictures were attractive. Needless to say, we were both very shocked when we arrived. First of all, I found the number for the hotel online with intentions of calling the hotel to make reservations. I find that it is more personal to speak with the person responsible for bookings on the phone than to book online. When I called the hotel, the voice that answered was less than friendly. I asked the sullen voice on the phone what the rates were and what kind of rooms were available. She told me that all she had left was a street view room and it was around $120 per night. I asked her if there were any discounts for military or AAA. I got a very abrupt, "No. We do not give discounts." So, reluctantly, I returned to Orbitz and booked our room. We fully expected the hotel to be older and "broken-in", but the advertisement boasted a hotel that was remodeled in 2007. I don't believe that a sloppy coat of paint qualifies as being remodeled. When we opened the filthy door to our room, we were greeted by a musky odor and a room that was less than hospitable. The first thing we noticed was the air conditioning unit stuck in the wall. Although it was cooling nicely, it had the strangest form of insulation I have ever seen. Packed all around the edges of the A/C unit were towels. I do not mean nice, fresh, white towels. These towels were caked in dust and grime so thick that it was probably a fire hazard. Next, I checked the bathroom. The shower curtain looked fairly new, but I think that was probably to disguise the disgusting tub behind it. The entire shower was covered in soap scum and what looked like the leftovers from the guests before us, including a used ponytail holder (with hair still on it) around the shower head. The sink in the bathroom was what I can only describe as corroded. They faucet had blue toothpaste drippings and drool on it. The mirror was so streaky it was hard to make myself out. The only saving grace the bathroom had was the toilet appeared to have been cleaned. I left the bathroom and took a look at the bedroom. The beds looked nice enough and well made, but to my surprise, I found that they were propped up with cinder blocks! I'm not even sure what to say about that. I also found that our hotel staff did not trust us with a coffee pot. I am sure the neighbors heard me complaining through the 1 inch gap between the bottom of the door and the floor. We discussed leaving and made a few calls to nearby hotels. We had trouble finding vacancy and we had to be at the convention center for a meeting in less than an hour. We decided that we would make the best of it for the few days we would be staying, but it got worse. The "Serta" beds were as good as sleeping on the floor, and with only a sheet and a comforter and no blanket, the well-insulated A/C unit made for a great night. I woke up looking forward to the free breakfast that had attracted us to the hotel to start with and was disappointed by the spread. The advertisement was not true to form, but the self made waffles were decent. After breakfast, we decided to get some sun and swim in the pool. We layed around in the chairs around the pool observing the mismatched doors and light fixtures, peeling paint, growing mold, and rusted gates and signs around the pool. After an hour or so, we decided to take a dip. I got in the wading pool and he went for the deeper end. It didn't take 30 seconds for the both of us to realize that it was the fithyest pool we had ever seen. We got out immediately and headed for a shower. I showered (in my flip-flops) and reached for a towel only to ...

Pros & Cons

We only chose this hotel because we were running out of time and prices were increasing daily due to the holiday weekend. We were unaware that the original price quoted on Orbitz did not include additional hotel fees. When I called the hotel about the additional fees, they said they have had this problem before with Orbitz. So make sure you find out the actual cost before booking. I usually use another website to book hotels but decided to try Orbitz this time. I ended up spending more than I would've liked on the room but made the best of it. Had a great time in Myrtle Beach. Lots of activities. We traveled in a group of 10 and spent the weekend. The beach was beautiful and they kids enjoyed the pool. The hotel was located right on the beach which was great. The staff and housekeeping was not professional. Our phone wasn't working, they did send someone right away but he couldn't figure out what was wrong and said they would try to fix it the next day (which they didn't). There was also no remote in the room, we had to go ask for one. Also there was an extra TV in the room, we told them about it and no one came to remove it. There was a small roll of toilet paper in the bathroom, by the next day we had to go to the front office to ask for another one. Housekeeping never came to our room (we kept looking out for them). My husband saw them on another floor and when he asked when they were coming to our room, he was told they already did our floor (no one ever knocked on our door and we kept peeking out to see when they were passing to give them our trash). We do a lot of traveling and we're not used to staying in 5 star hotels but expected more for the price we paid. We brought our own towels and was happy we did. The room we stayed in had carpet and tile, the tiled floor was not in the best condition and we kept our slippers on while walking around the room. We brought our own Lysol and it came in handy. The breakfast selection was pretty good. Waffles, bagels, coffee cake, coffee, tea, and juice were offered. The hotel really needs to be updated or maintained better. We had a great time in Myrtle Beach, we definitely plan on returning soon we will not be staying in this hotel again.

Not so clean

The Summer Wind Inn and Suite was not anything that I was expecting. The room was dirty with hair all over the beds. We did not receive towels both days. I had to ask the first day and the lady said they were still in the dryer. The second day I went to ask and she was folding them so I guess I got lucky. The so called breakfast was two waffle makers. Not very impresses with that. I was expecting a little more from this hotel. I would not even consider returning.
