Not as upscale as the photos show!

The room we got was nothing like the photos and was very low-end for the price. If I had wanted something dumpy, I would have booked that and saved $. Most of these suites and efficiencies are privately owned and leased back to the hotel so who knows what you get. I reserved a type L "executive suite": 2 dbl beds, full kitchen, separate living room with addt'l pull-down bed. It was advertised as nonsmoking but reeked of smoke, and the carpet, small loveseat (NOT sofa) and other furniture were in rough shape. Kitchen was great - you could cook a turkey in there if you had to. I was really upset at the quality, so I went to the front desk the following morning to request another room. Desk clerk told me a mgr would have to handle it, and she would have him call me back when he was free. I got a prompt call about 20 min later and they had 2 other rooms for me to choose from. One was two doors from where I was, so it was the exact same layout. What a difference!! Clean, no carpet but tile, an even NICER kitchen, and the furniture in the living room was similar to the picture, although the manager (who declined coming to my original room to see what I was unhappy about, btw) told me that there were no couches in the living room; it was all loveseats (artful photography making it look like a full sofa, apparently, and in the room description it supposedly says "Loveseat", although I never saw that and I was checking out the details), and they also took away all of the coffee tables within the past few months. So I was surprised to see a FULL sofa AND a coffee table in the living room!! Either he doesn't know what is in the rooms; isn't keeping up to date, or doesn't really care. At least I was HAPPILY surprised this time, but wouldn't you think the manager would make an attempt from time to time to familiarize himself with the property, particularly when it's privately owned? Who knows WHAT your guests are getting, and it's really a mgr's job to give them what they want, and in order to do that, you have to KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE!!! Aside from that, the staff is VERY friendly and helpful. The pools are fantastic, although the photography again has taken liberties. They have mini-golf, although I didn't get a chance to play. We LOVED the hotel restaurant - great food and great prices (be sure to have the hot pretzels with dip - no matter what you think about pretzels, this is nothing like it and you will LOVE it!!!). If you want to be near the airport, this is about 10-15 minutes away, and there are plenty of resaurants, activities, and beachfront within walking distance, so it has a good location.

Dining tip: In Hotel

Don't be put off by hotel restaurants - 1800 restaurants in Myrtle Beach, and one of the best meals we had was at the Landmark! They had great food and great prices (be sure to have the hot pretzels with dip - no matter what you think about pretzels, this is nothing like it and you will LOVE it!!!), and the selection should make even the most picky eater happy.

Family gathering First

The hotel staff were very helpful during check-in. The families (SC, FL, and NC) had booked seven individual rooms. The staff was still able to accommodate the families in a group area of rooms. I did rate them low in Maintenance and Upkeep due to a sticky/stuck exterior hall door that took you to the floor rooms. But overall, the stay was excellent, especially enjoyed the indoor pools and full-size kitchen area.

Landmark vs. [...]

My experience with[...] was great, however with Landmark Hotel and staff not so much! First of all they do not list on the site when you check in that you have to pay a deposit plus a resort fee. When questioned about the staff was rude and unwilling to help. I promptly call [...] because I am on a budget and they helped me out at once, even spoke with my bank to help straighten out something. Also, water in the shower took 15 minutes to heat up so I could get in without freezing, I don't know my room was near a kitchen, but there was the smell of food the entire time I was there, not pleasant either. I will book with [...] again, but not with the Landmark Resort...very dissatisfied!!!!

birthday celebration

This was a horrible hotel. We called ahead to be able to check in early. We arrived at 1. Check in was at 4, at 5:30 our room still wasn't ready. We finally got in our room around 6. The manager on duty refused to move us to a room that was available, but did offer to give us 10% off our stay. It didn't make up for our missed dinner reservations, but I had driven 4 1/2 hours and didn't really feel like arguing. After getting home I check my card to make sure we had been refunded only to see that she had only refunded 10% of one night's stay. Which really upset me. Not only did she lie to me but we waited over an hour past check in time for a room that wasn't up to par. Once we arrived in our room which was disgusting. There were crumbs in the bedding. The shower curtain wasn't even attached to the hooks, they'd been ripped off. The shower curtain rod was broken. I went down stairs to complain and ask to be moved to a different room, for the 2nd time. I was willing to pay more to upgrade to an ocean front room (which I thought I had already booked, but apparently not) [...]. We did order room service (chili cheese fries) it took an hour to have then delivered. When arriving to the room she had forgotten the drink and didn't have change for a 20, a $100 I could understand, but a 20? So my 6 dollar meal ended up costing 12 because the staff didn't have change...convenient right? The hotel does state that they have 17 pools, which I thought would be awesome. NOPE. They have like 3 adult pools a few lazy rivers and about 10 hot tubs of which only about 3 were actually hot. Worst stay EVER and I will never waste my time or money again at this place again.

Young Couple's Review

I was not let down with this hotel. Most of the staff were friendly although when my boyfriend and I went downstairs to get discount tickets to Ripley's Believe it Or Not Aquarium, the entertainment coordinator was extremely rude i.e. "Don't use GPS use the GPS god gave you" "Let me get back to my game of solitaire". The parking situation was a bit annoying, didn't know I'd have to take 2 elevators to get to my room, but at least they have a walk-way and we didn't have to cross the street every time we left for an activity. At the pool there are signs posted that are supposed to remind the guests that they need a wrist band to be permitted in the hot tubs/pools, but this is not reinforced. The hallways are very sandy/dirty looking and the stairway has a musky-urine smell. All in all, I would stay here again- I mean, the price and location was exactly what I was looking for in a vacation.

Go to Mr. Fish! This is a great small business that has WONDERFUL seafood. Unlike most other restaurants, this is NOT an all you can eat buffet, rather, each meal is prepared has been shown TLC. * Boom Boom shrimp is GREAT* DO NOT try Calabash Sea Trawler- this would be a restaurant VERY close to the hotel-walking distance. My boyfriend and I were so hungry the first day, we tried it due to its location; he had the buffet (consisting of mainly fried food and not much selection) and I had shrimp creole. We spent 35 dollars on a dinner that was horrible! Don't make this mistake! I'm not sure about other "calabashes" that is, you'll notice Calabash- Bennet, and others; all I know is Sea Trawler has bad service, gross food, and unfriendly staff (AND OVER PRICED!).
