Great Place

We wanted somewhere that was affordable and we got it and a great place to stay. For the same price we could have stayed in a Days Inn in the city, but this place had a charm and uniqueness to it that really made the stay wonderful. We woudln't have taken the time to visit wonderful Mt. Pleasant or Isle of Palms had we stayed in the city, so we are very pleased we stayed here.

Stopover in Charleston

Was in a great location, staff was friendly and helpful. Room was clean. Property is tired and in need of renovation. Everything appears overused and worn out. There is no room service but plenty of options near by, in fact right next door was a great Seafood place.

Shem Creek Inn is a great location to visit Charleston

Shem Creek Inn is a lovely and creatively designed property, comfortable. The location is delightful to discover the shrimping industry and fishing, plus delightful brids and nature spot. It is also an aging property: The parking ground is in natural sand cover - hence erosion is part of it. However the potholes need serious attention for the safety of the residents.

The only place I would return to for it's genuine good food, is Vichry's. However, the place needs better maintenance and cleanliness. The staff needs training and clean attires.

Disappointed

Felt cramped in the room, especially the bathroom. "Marsh" view was the parking lot. Great location as for convenience to restaraunts and taking a walk in the marsh. Service at check in was nothing special and not too helpful. Breakfasts are nothing to write home about and pretty cramped. Pool area looked nice, but it was too cold to use. Just not a good value at this time of year, even with the big discounts we got.

Has character

We came to Charleston after work one evening because my husband had an 8:00 AM appointment the following day and we didn't want to drive up in the wee hours of the morning. We just needed a clean place to sleep and shower so I didn't want to spend $100 but I didn't want to end up with a roach motel for $50 either. While looking at the usual $75-range chain motels, I happened across Shem Creek Inn. I'm glad I did. Because of its location, overlooking the marsh or creek, it just has a cuteness about it. It has character.

Needs a better sign to show quest where in check,if you are a first time quest (it's upstairs). The check in-staff person was checking me in and the phone rang they stopped my check-in to give the person on phone info about the hotel. Seen I was getting steamed they put the phone on hold and contiuned to check me in. The only other negative was the A/C unit was loud.

It was ok

Very good location if not staying in downtown Charleston, just a 10 minute drive over the bridge. Restaurant next door and a couple more across the creek if you don't want to drive in to Charleston.
