Carolina dreaming

I just wanted to get away for a weekend, someplace relaxing. Well I found it. I went in the off season so I don't know what it is like when it is busy down there, but it was great for us. The staff was very friendly and very helpful. The rooms very clean and roomy. It is a place that the "Well to do" can stay and be pampered and the "Not so Well" like me can feel just as welcomed. Thank you so much for a great weekend.

Difficult to use the balcony because of the HVACs below. Friendly cheerful staff, great food at the restaurant but a bit pricey. Great location. By all means go!!

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

Try not to drive around Charleston. Take one of the many horse drawn carts. Local drivers drive as though their accelerators are stuck to the floor!

A delightful place

We signed up for a 2br 2 bath villa. When we arrived, the room to which we were assigned didn't have a very good view despite the fact that we purchased an Ocean View Villa (it's actually a condo in a 4 floor building). We spoke with guest services and they immediately upgraded us to a 3BR 3 bath villa at no extra cost which had an amazing view from the balcony, living room, and master bedroom. The staff was very courteous and more than competent. The two golf courses were great, the only complaint (which is more a function of the dates we were there, March 12-16) was that the fairways were green but the rough wasn't. We will definitely be returning.

Fabulous stay at Wild Dunes

My husband attended a medical conference over the weekend. We were very impressed with the room. The staff was very helpful and all of our concerns were handled within a few minutes. Only complaint from my husband was the lack of television programing. No movie channels or pay per view.

weekend getaway

Wild Dunes is a great place to get away from everything. It Has a private secluded beach and 2 great golf courses. We only went in to Charleston once for dinner, otherwise everything we nedded was at the resort.

The Links course is a bit more expensive than the Harbor course but it is worth it for a great round of golf.

Great resort getaway off the beaten path

I was looking for something near downtown Charleston, having never been this was bit farther than anticipated but well worth the drive. Beautiful, secluded location with private beach homes leading to the resort. Once on location there's not much else around the area so food options are limited to Boardwalk restaurant, which has good food and reasonably priced. The resort is on an outer barrier island with direct walking access to Atlantic ocean, at low tide we walked quite a ways out and found many starfish; very different experience for desert dwellers. We stayed during the low season in mid January, perhaps 6-8 other guests were ever seen; very quite. This was a pleasant surprise that I would hope to return some day.

Welcoming Retreat

Very good customer service and attention to detail. Welcoming and comfortable environment. However, room service menu prices differed from charge. Hotel did not have a clear beach marker, and staff did not know what block number the hotel was on beachside. Consequently, it is easy to miss the hotel entrance when on the beach.

December in Wild Dunes

Wild Dunes is a sprawling complex that includes an inn and villas owned by the resort but is mostly a collection of privately owned condos and townhouses. We stayed at the latter and found out that the quality of the accommodations can vary widely. We started in a townhouse that had great ocean views but was otherwise a tremendous disappointment. "Luckily" we found out that one of the second floor bathrooms was flooding the first floor and, to their credit, the resort immediately moved us to larger accommodations. The condo we stayed in was wonderfully decorated and still had a great ocean view. So, our stay turned out to be a great success. We enjoyed walks by the beach but because of the weather did not get to use the rest of the resort facilities (pools, golf course, tennis courts, etc.). There were so many great dining options in Charleston that we did not need to use the resort's dining facilities. We did have a New Year's Day brunch at the inn which turned out to be a great disappointment. All in all, with the beach, the proximity to Charleston and the facilities, Wild Dunes is a great place to stay – with some caveats.

Great Location & Beach

We were VERY pleasantly surprised by the outstanding setting -- we only had to walk out the back porch to be directly on the beach. Wild Dunes is a controlled, gated community with multiple options for type of lodging. The layout and landscaping of the entire community are first class. The only negative was a relatively long drive from Charleston.
