"Seedy -- Needs Renovations!"
This Westin will be renovated in late 2012, consequently it's currently "seedy" and carpet, paint, etc. is not being addressed because of that. It's outdated and in desparate need of new elevators, paint job, carpets, etc. Beautiful setting and location, but in desparate need of updating, new furnishings, carpets, repairs, etc.

Great stay at HIlton Head Westin
Overall this is a quality hotel. The pluses; location, great beach, great pool, close to everything, The minuses were minor and understandable. If you have hundreds of people coming in from the beach and pool, you will have sand and water brought back in over the carpets, etc. Still, Westin is clean, and while the carpets may show wear, it is a classy establishment. Family loved it. For price - look you all know that the food at the hotel is going to be expensive, so don't complain about it. Overall, we had a blast, and would stay again.

Beautiful Hotel - Horrible Services
My wife and I stayed at the Westin for our anniversary vacation. While the facilities show the slightest sign of wear, they are nonetheless gorgeous - from the enormous fountain in front of the hotel to the lush gardens surrounding the multiple pools. Our room was also quite nice. The bed and the linens were comfortable. The room was spacious. The amenities were mostly updated. The hotel was away from most of the activity on the island, but the beachfront view was amazing, and the restaurants and island activities were only a short drive from the resort. Saying all of that, the overall stay was far from enjoyable, and there were several incidents that prevented us from being able to truly enjoy our stay at the Westin. Incidents: 1.) The first issue that arose was the lack of air-conditioning in the room. (South Carolina in July is not pleasant without it) The room had reached 85 degrees before the sun rose. At one point in the middle of our sleepless night we tried to call the front desk but there was no answer. The next morning we called back and they told us that sometimes the latch on the balcony door doesn't catch and the a/c doesn't run when the door is open. Easy fix. Annoyed that we lost our first night's sleep over an issue that could have been resolved with a sign or a night clerk answering the phone. 2.) We spent the next morning exploring the island and went to the pool around lunch. There were no empty chairs around any of the pools, and non opened up until after 4:00 that afternoon. In the meantime we had to pay $10 to rent chairs to sit on the beach while we wandered back and forth - looking for a way to enjoy the pools. While we waited we tried to book a spa session, but those were also all booked. This wouldn't have bothered us as much if we weren't forced to pay extra for the privilege of being able to use the resort facilities. 3.) The next night we found out the hard way that the room doesn't actually have a refrigerator. It is just an old mini-bar, which can be used to store your stuff, but not cool it. There is a little sign that says they will be happy to refrigerate items for you upon your request. Not the case. We brought some fresh caught seafood back from our outing and tried to have it refrigerated. After two calls and a lot of confusion the hotel said they were sending someone up for the food. Called again to check on the status, but no one ever showed up. Fell asleep waiting and awoke to a mini-bar with spoiled fish. 4.) In room movie rentals were down during our stay. 5.) The final blow came after we left and realized that my wife left her cell phone on the bed in the room. We called almost immediately. They said they would look for it and get back to us. They called us back to inform us that it was not there. We were positive that it had been forgotten, but we agreed to check the car and the luggage for the cell phone. Nothing. Called back and informed them that it wasn't with our stuff and we were certain that it had been left on the bed. They promised that they were doing everything they could and that they would call us with updates after they checked with housekeeping and with their laundering service. They haven't followed up once. And when I have contacted them, aside from a few phone calls to the various groups that had access to our room, they haven't been willing to in any way help us with this incident. All of this to say, considering the price there are so many better ways to spend a top dollar vacation.

For a wonderful fine dining experience go visit Charlies L'etoile Verte. This restaurant has become a staple amongst locals, allowing its guest to disappear in the French countryside for a few hours.

Great Service!!
We went from one side of the Island to the other, bring plenty of cab fare, the Westin's hotels 2 shuttles only go to an empty mall, abondoned marina and a golf course, not even the airport which is a 5 minuet drive. The food is wonderful, the staff is amazing! The hotel is beautiful with the private balcony ocean view. The walls are super thin though and your neighbors might get on your nerves when trying to get some sleep. Coligni Plaza and Harbor Town are the 2 places that we enjoyed the most while on the island, besides the beach. Oh if you see people with "guess services" all over the island, it's a timeshare scam, but are helpful with neat places to check out or ideas on things available, just know when to say thanks and walk away.

The Carolina Cafe inside the Westin is the best food on the Island, their staff I can't say enough good words about them, they felt like family. In HaborTown check out the crazy Krab, great food, try the She Crab soup (awsome). Food all over the island is great though never had one bad meal!

The hotel was wonderful....The only problem we encountered was with the booking website itself. When we tried to check in we were told that HotelClub had not completed the booking with the hotel and we had to wait for over an hour to check-in.

Beautiful, if dated hotel
I booked this hotel as a surprise Valentine's getaway for my wife and I, and it paid off. Our plans for the trip were to simply turn off our phones, relax and listen to the sounds of the crashing waves and we achieved that. The hotel's lobby was spacious and our check-in was a breeze thanks to [...] who was also able to upgrade our rooms to a garden view. The room itself was a good size and comfortable, but it was definitely starting to show it's age. New furniture and the wonderful Westin Heavenly Bed were coupled with dinged-up woodwork, chipped tile and outdated fixtures in the bathroom.Aside from these little aesthetic complaints, the room was wonderful. Our private balcony overlooking the koi pond was a huge plus, and we even had a small view of the ocean. The hotel grounds were gorgeous. Lush gardens, three pools, a hot tub and the aforementioned koi pond make relaxing and forgetting your troubles easy. The hotel's location was the biggest plus by far. Just past the pools is a huge stretch of pristine beach that we took advantage of as often as possible. The hotel boasts two restaurants - Oceans, an upscale seafood restaurant, and The Carolina Cafe, a reasonably priced buffet. We never got to make it to Oceans, but the Carolina Cafe was pretty decent. Certainly nothing out of this world, but the service was good and the food was more than adequate. All in all, we had a great weekend stay, and though the hotel could use a bit of a face lift, we had a wonderful time.
