Clean, friendly hotel. Great location!
Minnesota Sister Oct 2, 2009
From the check-in to the check-out, we received nothing but kind, friendly, quick service. [...] the hotel was great. Rooms ... were big, beds were a little small, but sooooo comfortable. The hotel is right on the beach, which made for easy access and great sunrises and nightcaps. The pool was big and warm. The Tiki Hut was also nice...a bit expensive, but we were on vacation, so who cares...sipping margaritas on the beach...can't beat that!As far as what we did on our vacation...we spent one day in Savannah and one day in Charleston and 1.5 days on Hilton Head. If I could go back, I would've spent another day on Hilton Head. Charleston and Savannah are kind of one in the same, so if you see one, you've basically seen the other. But I would suggest Charleston over Savannah. In Charleston, we took the Ed Grimball walking tour. If you are interested in the architecture of the buildings or even just interested in the houses along Battery Park and King Street, I'd suggest this tour. If you are looking to learn more about the history of Charleston, I'd try a different tour. In Charleston we ate at Southend Brewery and Smokehouse...fantastic!

We had a great trip! The hotel was within walking distance or a short bike ride to many great restaurants and shopping. The ... staff was very helpful to suggest fun and intersting things to do when the weather wasn't great for beach time. The hotel was located right on the beach and the pool was beautiful! There was also a snack bar at the pool so you didn't have to come in from the sun to eat lunch! Can't wait to go back next year!
Traveler type: Friends
There are bike paths all over the island. The hotel recommended a few bike stores that will deliver and pick up the bikes. It was so convenient! They were there when we arrived and we didn't have to worry about them when we left. They came with a basket and lock and everywhere on the island was bike friendly with bike racks if you want to stop and shop or eat!

Good beachfront hotel
MW Traveler Sep 2, 2009
Hotel was located on the beach, with a good pool and nice tiki bar on property. The hotel is older and has older hotel ... smells, but the rooms were neat and clean. Most rooms do not have water views so most travelers should not expect to see the ocean from their rooms. The room rate was reasonable; the hotel restaurant was good for breakfast and the seafood buffet was very good.

Not Worth the $$$
Lisa Aug 21, 2009
I looked on the internet forever trying to find a good hotel for a reasonable amount of money, and decided to go with the ... Holiday Inn Oceanfront. Afterall, the reviews weren't terrible, and it was reasonably priced. After a long drive to Hilton Head, I go to check-in and am told that I made a smoking reservation. I know FOR A FACT that I did not make a smoking reservation. I have breathing problems and would never, ever do this. They said either I take the KING smoking room, or go to a non-smoking room with two DOUBLE beds. My boyfriend and I were there on vacation... so it was either sleep in seperate beds, or deal with the smokey smell. I went and checked out the room, and the smell wasn't overbearing, but it was just the point that it was not what I KNOW I asked for. Don't let me forget to mention the HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE elevators. I was iterally afraid to ride on them because they would slam into things on the way down and make everyone on it hold on for dear life. The shower wsa dirty, there was black stuff in it that I could scrape off with my fingernails. There are two bedside tables that have lamps with outlets on them, and the only way that you could get them to work was it you wiggled the cord and the propped it up on something. The hotel just had a nasty smell abd just felt dirty to me. I will never stay here again nor reccommend it to anyone.

The view was good as was the location, that's about it. The carpet was wet from the AC unit, the TV was new but the signal ... was analog and horribly fuzzy and they said they couldn't fix it. The shower was NASTY, there was an actual hair (not a hair from your head!) from someone else in there. I don't know what has happened to Holiday Inn over the years but we would have been much happier in a tent on the beach and it would not have cost us $260. We will NEVER stay here again.

Granny S. & Papa Aug 14, 2009
The location of the hotel is perfect for those wishing to walk on the beach or go to the beach to swim. Unfortunately, while ... we were there, the jellyfish were numerous! There were 1,400+ jellyfish stings reported on the day that we arrived and 500+ the day after arrival. We all suffered a few stings too. The hotel was average, although we never seemed to have enough towels/washcloths. We ran out of towels/washcloths each day. The bathroom had no fan/ventilation and when you took a shower, the bathroom steamed up and got incredibly hot/uncomfortable. The maids seemed to do a mediocre job with the cleaning and most of them could not speak English. The toilet smelled and it didn't seem like it flushed properly, which created a smell in the room where we slept. On the upside, the beds were comfortable and we had a pretty good view of the beach. One of the highlights of the hotel was the wonderful restaurant located on the premises. We ate a enjoyed the wonderful breakfast bar there each morning and enjoyed eating dinner there one night. It was very reasonably priced and the restaurant staff were friendly. The "omelet chef" was wonderful! Another complaint about the hotel was there was one laundry facility located on the 5th floor to serve the entire hotel. One washer and one dryer were all that were available for 5 floors, which meant you were lucky if you ever got a chance to use the equipment to do your laundry!

Hotel restaurant is wonderful for breakfast. If you get there between 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., you got the early-bird special, which included cofee or a soft drink. We were there Sunday through Thursday night and were not there on the famous "all you can eat seafood buffet" nights. We did eat there Sunday night upon arrival for the prime rib buffet, which was a wonderul meal at a great price!

Buddha Aug 10, 2009
Great location to beach, shops, & dinning. Went for a long weekend w/ my girlfriend. Had a well needed trip. The room was ... good other than over by the mini-fridge, someone had puked on the floor & under it. Took calling the manager to get it cleaned up quickly, but could still kinda smell it by the corner of the room which was right next to the a/c. Was comped 3 mornings of breakfast for the trouble. Other than that it was a good stay. Watch out for jellyfish that come close to the beach in August!! Next time we will rent a condo or house in the plantations.

This was the perfect spot for a family vacation! The hotel is located directly on the beach, the pool is fantastic, there is ... even a bar located steps from the pool! The hotel restaurant offered free dinner and breakfast for children under 12 a big plus for us because our daughter is a super picky eater! Internet access, and a store inside the building. The Hotel is also not even a block away from a huge variety of shops and a public beach access that is very nice! We really enjoyed our stay and will come again!

Good value for family vacation at HH
Chad Jul 13, 2009
The Holiday INN HH is a good value for the budget-conscious family. The hotel rooms are in average condition (older hotel), ... but overall kept clean and tidy. The pool area is fantastic with live music from the tiki hut next door and ocean front view. They even had kids activities by the pool at selected times. Hotel location is awesome...shops, restaurants across the street and convenient to other areas such as Harbour Town. This is not a resort hotel and the rooms are just average, but the location and pool areas are worth the money. This is a very adequate hotel for seeing Hilton Head and staying oceanfront on a budget.
