Nice hotel

Promptly upon check in (which was handled by friendly and competent staff) I went to the Manager's Social where I drank a free vodka & tonic. There were also some light snacks available. The room was large, clean and comfortable and the hot breakfast the following morning was much better than that offered by other hotel chains. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. Beware, however, if you use Orbitz to book your room. Despite clearly requesting a non-smoking room (my most important criterion) I was booked in a smoking room. Fortunately, the nice staff was able to switch me to a nonsmoking room, but only after a few tense moments of searching. I would have been quite upset if a nonsmoking room wasn't available.

Not worth the money...

The hotel was nice but not located in a nice area. I went to the gas station across the street and was told I was not welcome! The “Zoo” Was the only thing the do in Columbia SC and To be honest I would Rather go to the Free Zoo in Washington DC any Time. I was visiting friends at Fort Jackson and if I knew there where closer hotels to base, I would have stayed at one of them. The hotel was about 20 mins away from the base with out traffic. With traffic you are looking at 45- a hour. Just the amount of money spent on the hotel was not worth it. If your staying for a couple of nights I would look else where.

Overall, quite enjoyable

Easy to find. Nice staff. Room very clean, but bathtub did not drain properly. Internet did not work properly. Pool overly chlorinated, burned our eyes. Breakfast was excellent!! Would stay here again!

Visiting child at Fort Jackson

We were in Columbia seeing our son graduate from Boot Camp at Fort Jackson. The Embassy Suites was located on the opposite side of Columbia from the base but it didn't matter because the city is small and easy to navigate. Our room at the Embassy Suites was excellent. The daily breakfast, which is included in the room price, was excellent. We also enjoyed the complimentary drinks in the evening. The hotel is within walking distance of the Riverbanks Zoo which was worth visiting.

Excellent Experience!

This was my first stay in an Embassy Suites hotel and I will definitely be back! Breakfast was wonderful, the room was beautiful, and the complementary laundry facilities enabled me to get all our laundry done and re-packed for the trip home. The only complaint I would have is that we weren't quite able to get our room cool enough. We're pretty hot natured though, so it was probably comfortable by most people's standards.

Try dinner at Hudson's Smokehouse. Some of the best barbecue you'll find anywhere! This was the least expensive meal ($25.00) of our whole trip and was by far the best!
