The Society House offers visitors to Charlestons historic district accommodations comprised exclusively of historic luxury suites with a level of comfort that rivals the finest luxury hotels of Charleston. Located where Charlestons main shopping thoroughfare, King Street meets Society, The Society House is more than a hotel. The structure, built in 1801, was fully renovated in 2008 into luxury residential condominiums, and all accommodations have since been modified to meet the high standards of Charleston visitors. The Society House is ideal for sophisticated travelers that prefer the feel of a private town home rather than a hotel or inn.

Weekend Visit

Stayed at Society House for a weekend stay. Door/key access was not as difficult as everyone says it is. Definitely an obscure entrance, but I found it pretty quick...Parking garage is right around the corner, $12 for 24 hours, not bad at all. The location is fantastic, its in the middle of everything and a short walking distance to the harbor. I stayed in Apt 201 and it was nice. It definitely could have used a deep cleaning and some fresh paint, but neither of these effected our stay. The one bedroom had plenty of space and the bathroom was nice. TV's in main area and bedroom were nice to have as well. Like many people have said, the stairs are pretty narrow and step, and the top step is deceivingly high, they need to do something to make it more apparent. It was also a little noisy at night (college kids live across the street) but that did not bother us at all. Definitely recommend staying here just for the convenience alone!

Great quick getaway

This apartment style hotel was a great place to stay. Good location - easy to walk everywhere. About 20minute drive to the beach. Great restaurants nearby. Keep in mind this is an apt hotel so no front desk staff and no early check in or late check out, however they do have a sister property where you can leave your baggage while you explore the city. We would definitely stay here again.

Take ear plugs

The room has a nice kitchen, comfortable bed, and is in a great location for touring the historic district. Problems include difficulty in finding the entry to the facility, a steep stairs to get to the unit with a top step that invites a stumble, and no defined place to park while loading/unloading the car. The sofa was a nice leather but was so filthy we had to cover the cushions with towels. The bedroom should have blackout drapes to keep out the city lights. We were unfortunate enough to arrive in the middle of a three day weekend. The noise outside and from the other tenants kept waking us up till 3:30 in the morning. The second night was much better. The final straw was the noise outside on our last night. The city worked on the street below our 2nd floor unit from 9:30pm till 7:30 the next morning – jack hammers, trucks, tractor, etc.

Perfect for exactly what it is, not what it is not.

The Society House is a great place to stay for an independent traveler. I've stayed here twice and plan to stay again when in Charleston. It is what it is. It's not what it's not. Here's what to expect: What Society House is: A very spacious, well kept apartment with nice furniture/finishes and basic products (Shampoo, towels, glasses etc). A full kitchen and living room area, dining area, large bedrooms with closets, large bathrooms and a TON of space for not a ton of money. The location is great (right on King - walking distance to shops, restaurants, hotels, fitness centers - EVERYTHING!). Apartment dwellers will feel very comfortable here. You have everything you need right outside of your very own apartment. What Society House is not: A full service hotel. There is no front desk. No bar. No restaurant. No room service. Keys are kept in a lock box outside and you come and go as you please. There is an emergency number to call and help is available if you need it (I've never actually needed help while here). I recommend staying here if you are going to Charleston with plans in place or if you are comfortable exploring/asking around (everyone in Charleston is super nice). If you are looking for hospitality within the walls of your hotel, this is not for you.
