Motel 6 Charleston South

The hotel was about what we expected for this price range- it suited our needs short term and was a quick drive to downtown. Didn't have the quietest of guests and wish quiet hours were enforced as children were running around outside the doors late at night with not much supervision. The second night was quieter though.

Positives about this hotel are the price and proximity to downtown Charleston. Negatives are that the room smelled, the bath towels were too small, the area is questionable, and the room lacks basic things like tissue paper. The staff were actually not bad. They accomodated a late request for late checkout when I was stuck at an interview in downtown Charleston. If cleanliness of a hotel room in not your top priority, then this hotel room may be worth it.

fleas in the first room. second room doors would not unlock so they finally got us into a useable 3rd room. Nothing good on tv channels available. No dryer or iron or coffee pot in room. No microwave. Pretty old school. People at front desk were friendly through it all and we received a full refund.

The room was too tiny to accommodate two full-sized beds. Found peanut shells on blankets, plus holes. Had to ask for another non-smoking room, because the first one stank horribly. Not enough towels--management claimed they had to go buy some more. No extras such as shampoo, tissues, and toilet paper. Thin walls; very noisy place; not enough parking spaces. Front desk help rude.

Reserving the room online did not save any time or trouble. Still had to wait and fill out everything again. The staff was standing around talking upon our arrival and were not interested in being disturbed.

When we couldn't find the hotel, I was afraid that that was a bad sign of things to come. But, I was pleasantly surprised when we got to our room. Turns out the trees by the road were hiding the sign and we were told that the hotel has no control over the trees and trimming. Maybe they should move the sign. We didn't need many amenities for our overnight stay. We were in town for a wedding and just needed a place to sleep. The room was clean and the recent upgrade was evident in the bathroom area. We had everything we needed and had a pleasant stay. We will definitely consider staying there again and would absolutely recommend to friends. A fellow traveler leaving the same time we left this morning mentioned the noise in the early hours. The unit causing the ruckus was only 3 doors away from us, but we never heard anything all night. Motel 6 was a good choice for us.

OK, I know that in the hotel biz you really do "get what you pay for", but at $61, this motel is overpriced! Even at $61 I expect to get a room with a working phone and a dry floor in the bathroom. And it would be nice to at least have the clerk at the front desk smile, and at least pretend that they were glad you were there.

I enjoyed my stay at Motel 6 Charleston, it was clean, location was perfect, staff was very nice and friendly. We were down to visit with family and friends for the weekend. The only thing the hotel need is to change the carpet and it would be nice to have a small refrigerator and a microwave in the room. I will recommend this motel for a short stay to someone else.

I was there to attend the SCV Conference in Charleston. The room was nice and clean. The lady in registration was very nice and friendly; the hotel is in a great location. However at 5:30 A.M. a very loud mouthed woman started yelling at someone until the police showed up. By that time I was up much earlier then I wanted to be. Can't blame the hotel for stupid people, that don't care about anyone around them.

The beds where like sleeping on a concrete floor and the rooms stunk to high heaven. When we arrived there was alot of people just hanging out in the parking lot that was just walking around. our second night there the ac went out and it was 115 degrees outside. It was a nightmare.
