This was a terrific B&B. The room was lovely, as was the rest of the property. The only challenge was that our room was downstairs, and there is no elevator, as it is a historic home. But, the staff was willing to assist us in any way we needed. They were also great at giving directions and recommendations for attractions. The breakfast itself was delicious. Would definitely come back here!

Our stay at this Inn was wonderful and memorable! It is quaint, private, immaculately clean, very comfortable, with excellent staff who take care of your every need. The staff were so friendly and helpful through the entire stay. Well worth the price and the location was perfect for walking to the Historic Charleston sites.

Amazing place to stay!

My wife and I love Charleston, and visit whenever we are able. When I found the John Rutledge Inn, it looked like a place we had to try. We were not disappointed! The buildings in the complex are very historic, beautiful, and well maintained. The staff was very friendly, the breakfasts were great, and it was a terrific experience all around. Make sure you go out and sit on the balcony off of the ballroom. The location is perfect for walking around and sightseeing in the historic homes district, and an easy walk to Meeting St, East Bay St, and Market St. Parking is on-site, or right next door, but be aware that there is an additional charge for parking. I considered giving only 4 stars for amenities because they do not have a pool, but that is not something one normally looks for when going to a B&B like this. We will stay here again in the future!

One of the Best!

Would recommend Mon, Aug 23, 2010
We were in town for a family wedding and the John Rutledge house was an oasis of calm during a hectic weekend. Our room was spacious, daily tea and sherry in the ballroom was a treat, and breakfast was fantastic. This is one of the best Inns/B&B's we've stayed in. You really had the best of both worlds--the feeling of being in an historic home, yet having all of the modern conveniences. I also can't say enough about the staff, especially [...] and [...].

Saturday Brunch at Poogan's Porch was great. Started off with 1/2 price Mimosas, then moved on to terrific food. The biscuits were the best we had on the trip, the buttermilk fried chicken was very unusual but fantastic, the she-crab soup was also very good, as was the crabcake Benedict. Our group of 6 had planned on ordering Poogan's famous bread pudding, but we were all too stuffed! Reservations are a good idea.
