Average Hotel

There is nothing special about this hotel. We stayed for the weekend and it was very average. There was a storm so the power was out (not their fault) but it was an inconvenience. They did provide a shuttle but the times didn't match up with what we needed. Don't expect a lot and you won't be disappointed.

Great Views, Good amenities, but not "downtown walkable"

Stayed for a few nights in late December 2013 with friends. The river views from the rooftop restaurant looking towards downtown Charleston are spectacular, especially around sun rise and sun set. Full slate of amenities available, including washer/dryer accessible via the lobby and a fairly robust fitness center featuring some weight machines and two treadmills. There is an adjacent outdoor pool (closed in the winter). In terms of location, the hotel is over a bridge and not really walkable to downtown. There is a shuttle which runs every two hours to take guests into downtown. Be in the lobby at least 10 minutes prior to scheduled departure to secure a seat, as each trip can get crowded and late arrivers will have to wait for another pickup. One another thing to note for those arriving by car is that taking a left out of the hotel heading away from downtown can be tricky, as there is a no left turn sign at the access where you initially entered the hotel parking lot upon arrival. To exit left, there is an access at the other end of the parking lot away from the hotel. To sum up, if you value views and amenities over location, this is your place; if you want a hotel from which you can walk to and from downtown, look at other options.

Getaway to Charleston

There is nothing too fancy about this place. The driveway of this hotel can be a little confusing because it's a one way and the parking lot was usually flooded at night. It sits along the Ashley river, the view is not impressive, but there is a view. The staff was informative, but not necessarily warm. There is a free shuttle but it doesn't run 24/7. Its not far from downtown, but definitely not walking distance or walking friendly. Its just outside downtown. Not a bad place to stay for what you pay.

Charleston Holiday Inn Riverview

The staff was very friendly and accomodating when we checked in. No hassles and the process was quick and easy. Room was with a great view of the Ashley River, bridges and Charleston. Nice view as we stayed on the 9th floor. Almost a 180 degree view. I liked the bar and restaurant on the roof. Pretty much the same view but higher. I appreciated the work out room on the 3rd floor. They have 2 trend mills and one paddle mill. You can run or walk and watch TV too. Weight machine on the other side was nice. I would stay at this property again.

Charleston Riverview Hotel

Very friendly staff, great views from rooftop restaurant. Only downside was sewer odor the next morning in our room, assuming it was from the shower drain, as after showers odor was gone. Hotel was centrally located for our needs with easy in/out access. Shuttle was very convenient to the downtown. Would probably stay here again due to rates and convenience.

Do not stay here.

First of all the Californing Dreaming restaurant and Holiday Inn on Savannah Hwy both came recomended to me. I was highly disappointed with both places. The salads were not that big or was it anything tasty or special. The steak my honey ordered was so dry it looked like it had died a thousands deaths before being placed on the plate. The Long Island Ice Tea had no alcohol in it. I was expecting something strong and relaxing to drink after a long car ride, but evidently that was not going to happen for me. The Holiday Inn which was very dirty. There was old soap left over in the bathroom and pubic hair all over the place. I wanted to throw up! I was grossed out.. It was very confusing trying to get up Lockwood drive and back toward down town. I suggest to future travels to find a place on King street. Best Western and other lower brand hotels on King Street were much nicer, better neighborhood and a tad less expensive. Live and learn I guess. Do not stay at the Holiday Inn..

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

My sweetie and I love to walk. Find yourself a parking lot and leave your car there. We walked for hours and hours every day and went in and out of the little shops and bars. The dining in Charleston is wonderful. You can dine on King Street, Meeting Street or anywhere by City Market.
