Wonderful Vacation

From the moment we arrived, the staff was very professional and met our every expectation. If you're booking through online, but still want your hotel chain rewards points, you'll have to do it when you get home; the staff couldn't or wouldn't do it. The location has to be the best in Charleston. The Barbados Room was great and the patio and pool areas are beautiful to spend time in. Say "Hi!" to the nicest staff in the South, and tell them we'll see them soon!

Slightly North of Broad, AKA S.N.O.B.'s, was some of the best tasting food we've had in years. Slightly dark, but if I knew that the food was that good, I wouldn't mind eating it while sitting on the tailgate in a rainstorm!

great location

Beautiful hotel in a perfect location. The rooms are small but manageble for a couple of occupants. Housecleaning overlooked us one day and we were left without clean towels etc.

The Oak Steakhouse, Hank's Seafood, and Fleet Landing were excellent for dinner. For breakfast, we ate at the hotel and nearby at Toast. Grayline Bus Tour of the city was also well done.

Great Charleston Hotel, But.....

The hotel was great -- historic building and wonderfully appointed. Staff was very helpful and attentive in the hotel. Restaurant was not quite as good from a service standpoint -- the food was very good but the servers seemed to be confused about what to do and how to do it. The only meal we had there was breakfast so it might have been the "B" team. Many other dining options in the area however.

Seeking clean and cozy!

I had expected more

Had read other reviews about parking so anticipated additional charge for valet/parking convenience. Wish I had taken the opportunity to seek out the public parking garage right behind the hotel. It was a bit inconvenient factoring in the 20 minute wait for vehicle retrieval each time we went out. Upon arrival we chose to carry in our luggage. Since we didn't request the services of the bell hops they just watched us and didn't even bother to open the door as we approached. That's one of my issues, holding open the door should be a courtesy afforded to all! Where's the hospitality? Several bulbs were out in the lamps in room. Housekeeping could have been a bit more diligent. (Not very thorough in wiping down bathroom counter.)Dining room opened for breakfast at 7 AM, a bit late for those wishing to get a early start.

Great Getaway

Me and my husband actually arrived 2-3 hours before check in time. The person at the desk immediately told us that we had a room waiting on us. That was great! When we came up to the room, which was overlooking the pool, was a nice, clean, and spacious. The bathroom counter was big enough to put all my stuff on. The only thing about the room is the tv was about an old style. The one aspect of the hotel that made this a 4 was that there was only a public parking deck next door that cost $20 a day. That was outrageous! The hotel is surrounded my nice restaurants and specialty shops, as well as name brand shops as Forever 21 and Nine West. If you needed to drive to any of the locations here within the hotel, it was hard to find parking spaces. Walking is the way to go. There is, however, are taxi drivers that are on bicycles and buses. For a tour of the historic district, you can take a horse and buggy tour. That is great! Walking haunted tours is also another fun activity. Not far from historic Charleston is Folly Beach which is gorgeous! Also, if you get a chance, take a dinner cruise of boat ride to Fort Sumter if you don't want stay in town. Overall, it was a good trip.

"Not Impressed"

Beautiful lobby, patio, restaurant, BUT the room was disappointing. Not the 4 star quality we had expected. Hotel is right in heart of historic district for easy walking/touring, but this hotel was not worth the price.
