Elegant Hotel

From the finely appointed lobby with crystal chandeliers and beautiful furnishing to the deco style rooms, I found this to be a lovely departure from modern hotels. I felt as if I were stepping back in time. Marika at the front desk was extremely cordial and helpful in guiding us to dining selections and additional activities to make our stay exceptional.

Long Weeend Getaway

Hotel lobby is beautiful, staff is helpful and sweet and the 2 door tenders opening both doors simultaneously to let you in makes you feel really welcome and such a classy gesture. The bathroom was small, not really a problem just noticeable when you usually see a bigger bath/vanity area. Beds very comfortable and pillows are fantastic. Good location to dining and shopping the King Street shops and hop the trolley to more dining, get to historic tours and the daily open market shopping. Short walk to most attractions if you're up to it. The Swamp Fox restaurant inside the hotel is excellent and reasonably priced. Starbucks is convenient in the morning rush.

So-so hotel, but great location

We stayed here over the weekend and had a wonderful time in Charleston. The hotel is across the street from Marion Square and we really enjoyed the farmers market Saturday morning. The room itself was small, but clean and I always appreciate free wi-fi. Unfortunately, we didn't have much of an opportunity to try the restaurant or room service.

A great way to see Charleston

We were a little apprehensive, since many reviews of the FM have not been too complementary. However, I was at a conference at the hotel and didn't want to have to walk so we gave it a try. The location is perfect-King and Meeting streets run parallel thru downtown and many of the coolest stores/bars/restaurants/museums are on, or just off them. You can easily walk to almost anything you'd like to see and eat any kind of food you'd like. The staff were wonderful-very helpful and willing to try and accommodate us. The reservation went without a hitch, room was clean and smelled fresh, linen was nice, the bathroom was a little cramped. It's an older building but I think they've done a good job of upgrading. Noise levels were a bit peculiar-we couldn't hear the wedding band from the next wing over, so that was great. But the bridesmaids yelling in the next room seemed awfully loud! It's worth mentioning that the restaurant in the hotel has really good food, except the obviously packaged scrambled eggs. Otherwise the buffet breakfast is excellent, there's some really good stuff like the shrimp and grits that us midwesterners never encounter. Overall a very good experience, we'd go back!
