Needs some work

Great location but no atmosphere. Lobby is very sterile. Could use a good bar and restaurant. Room was a little weirs as bathroom was literally next to the bed. You could open and close door while in bed. Beds were very comfortable and room was fairly spacious. I believe we were in a handicapped room because our door was double wide.

Poor girl is showing her age....

This was, I believe, once a "grande dame" hotel, and while it's still charming, it's showing some signs of needing a face lift. The lobby is a mix of chandeliers and tacky travel fliers, the elevators are gilded yet the carpet is frayed. The room is fine, the bed is very comfortable and the selection of channels is large. Bathroom is small but acceptable. There is no mini bar in the room, but there is a coffee maker. A quick meal in their restaurant was good (if typically southern too filling). Overall it was all fine, I had gotten an inexpensive rate, but it's time for some modernizing.

Dining tip: In Hotel

Food is good but on the typically rich side, as is usual with southern cuisine. Tasty and inexpensive, however.

Good location in city center

Good for one or two nights. Rooms with 2 queen size beds are much bigger than with single bed. Small bathrooms.

generic business hotel; feels old

Room 316: very small bathroom needed renovation; thermostat did not work for heating or cooling; available blanket in room appeared dirty; Alarm clock broken; bed was comfortable; elevator waits; ALL the hot dishes with the buffet breakfast for $15 were cold when selected from the dispensers.

Just OK

Good location, but Need to pay for parking. Room is small, bath is tiny, looks dated and many peelings and patches. OK for the value, but would not stay here again. Would rather stay some place simpler but roomier and cleaner.

Just what I was hoping for.

Dripping with history (built during the Roaring 20's) and old world charm, the Francis Marion was just what I was hoping it would be. A grand lobby decorated for the holidays was an unexpected treat. Great location, lovely park across the street, shopping, museums and art galleries within walking distance. Great experience in a very cool town.

Nice, charming, historic hotel

The best thing about this hotel is the bed. It is in great shape and very comfortable. The lobby is very nice and spacious. The fitness center is rather small and limited, especially for a 4 star hotel. The staff, while efficient, seems a bit cold and snooty for Southerners. While the hotel is located in the heart of downtown, it actually is on the upper edge of the truly historic district. I like this b/c it's in a less touristy area. But Charleston downtown is walkable to wherever. Parking is $16/day or $21/day valet.

Loved the location!

Friendly, great staff. Carpeting wet under A/C at window. Numerous college kids using hallway as social room for singing, music, chatting, but respectfully went in rooms when security explained the noise was disturbing other guests. Wonderful concierge & hop-to bell staff. Loved the location!

Francis Marion

Nicely located on King Street near everything. The hotel shows a few signs of lack of maintenance. But, overall, it was clean and well kept. Staff was always available and helpful. Surprisingly, the best dinner I had in Charleston was at the hotel restaurant and it was reasonably priced and the service was, again, excellent. I would definitely recommend the Francis Marion to anyone.

Excellent hotel - terrible cab service

The hotel is perfectly located in the hear of Charleston. I was accommadated with an early check-in which allowed me to nap before the wedding I was attending. The room was clean and the beds are amazingly comfortable. It was a bit noisy because there was a festival in the park outside, but the view from my window was great and the noise dissipated after a while. The biggest problem is the terrible cab service. I could not get a cab for a good 30-45 minutes every time I asked for one. Even the service to the airport took that long and caused me to rush at the airport.
