nice getaway

Nice free upgrade to king room with sofa on 9th floor. Very nice staff. Location was good for people like us who like to walk everywhere. Absolutley beautiful town to see. Only one complaint about hotel was grout in tub needs to be changed. Lower floors might be noisy. Got a very good rate for a beautiful hotel.

Fun get away

This hotel is nice and historic. The bathrooms are extremely small. The hotel needs some painting to clean it up. The rooms do not look like you would expect they would after going through the lobby. Much less. The historic tours and shopping are fantastic.

Charleston Getaway

The hotel is a bit dated and the walls of our room were nicked and dinged up quite a bit. Our room did have a beautiful view of Marion Park and the staff was both helpful and accomodating. There were two big events going on in the hotel while we were there. Both were very loud and poorly supervised and we were a bit put off upon returning to the hotel after dinner to find the attendees (young and obnoxious) roaming the lobby and trying to crash each other's events. It was unfortunate that hotel guests had to be subjected to the mayhem.

Needs a little bit of an overhaul

The staff was friendly. The room had charm, but for the price was lacking. Furniture (not antiques, newer furniture) had dings/marks. Marks on the walls that needed to be fixed. Large bright orange electrical cord running through the middle of the room. I wouldn't even sit on the sofa. Furniture was dusty. Just wasn't the experience I was hoping to receive from a hotel of this price. I would not stay here again.

Weekend Get Away

We had beautiful weather in Charleston for quick weekend get away! Hotel staff was helpful and friendly. We had to get the air conditioning turned on and staff was friendly but needed to fix it. Also TV needed repaired but they did do it right away. The only thing that was uncomfortable was the extremely tiny bathroom. Barely enough room to stand in let alone turn around in. Efficient use of space but not comfortable. Location is excellent and the staff friendly and for this reason, we would stay there again.

Poor girl is showing her age....

This was, I believe, once a "grande dame" hotel, and while it's still charming, it's showing some signs of needing a face lift. The lobby is a mix of chandeliers and tacky travel fliers, the elevators are gilded yet the carpet is frayed. The room is fine, the bed is very comfortable and the selection of channels is large. Bathroom is small but acceptable. There is no mini bar in the room, but there is a coffee maker. A quick meal in their restaurant was good (if typically southern too filling). Overall it was all fine, I had gotten an inexpensive rate, but it's time for some modernizing.

Food is good but on the typically rich side, as is usual with southern cuisine. Tasty and inexpensive, however.

Great location

The Francis Marion was very friendly and helpful when checking in; they even gave us personalized maps for attractions upon our request. The rooms were comfortable except for the loud noises across the street that went on all night. Plush bedding and a comfortable chair to put on shoes. Beautiful view of the city on the upper floors. Very convienient Starbucks underneath hotel while walking to the park or shopping directly across the street.

nice older european feel

The hotel location was great for us! Close to restaurants and many other sites....the starbucks was awesome to have right in the hotel! The rooms were fine...not brand new, but nicely kept up, minus a few small details.

The Thai restaurant, Basil, was just down the street and was fabulous! We had dinner there twice in one week and the sweet potato fries at Sermats were only $5 and a great afternoon snack. We could easily walk all over town from our hotel...in fact, we never even needed any transportation other than to and from the airport.

Great Location!

Did a lot of walking to a variety of sights and excursions. Great location. Easy to get around, centrally located. One issue, a call to the hotel reservations told us there was an optional $10 per room charge for the breakfast buffet (for 2 people). This was also printed at the website. Upon arrival, the front desk told us it was $10 pp.

Good location, old styling

Hotel was very nice for the year constructed. Was in a great locaton with great service. Only fault I could see was the size of the bathroom. We only stayed one night but could be a problem for a prolonged stay.
