Lackluster experience
Not sure if it was the reservation mix-up, getting locked out of my room by the computer, the fabulous view of the police station parking lot, or the bathroom lights too dim to shave by (energy saving CFL bulbs) but I wouldn't recommend paying to stay at this Marriott. Otherwise it wasn't bad.

Unhappy in Charleston
Too expensive
maid service missed the room on the first day. Lounge and pool area were under construction. Ordered a smoking room on website but hotel said they had no smoking rooms in hotel. Hotel was overbooked for Saturday night parties and there were no available parking spots on the property had to park next door. They have a lot of work to do to make this a 4 star hotel.

pleasant courtyard in summer
An indoor pool would have made the hotel a better value, and/ or the breakfast buffet. Also, there was an additional charge for the shuttle, which was misrepresented in the literature. The staff was very pleasant and helpful with directions.

Charleston Marriott good and bad
I was in town to see a few concerts and I'll highlight the good and bad of my experience. The Good- very pleasant staff and management( that's not always a norm these days). Good restaurant and bar in the hotel. The Bad- the room had a musty "wet carpet" feel and smell, Since there were no windows that opened(another downer since it was 65 degrees all day). I had a friend staying in a different room and the smell was similar.

Business and pleasure
I chose this hotel based on its location to the MUSC and pool/fitness center. Pool looked nice and fitness center was pretty decent. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Hallway carpet was in very bad shape. Water pressure in the shower was a joke. Coffee shop was decent and bartenders were friendly. I will try a different hotel on my next trip.

My experience
The hotel was good and location good. The only problem was we were next to the elevator and ice machine and it was very noisy when trying to sleep.

Old hotel with fancy new interor
This hotel was built in the 70's and the age of the exterior concerned me. Inside, the property was substantially renovated in 2007 and the renovation is well done and the rooms are well appointed. The best feature is the thermostatically controlled H&A for each room. I could not believe Marriott charged $9.95 per day for internet access. Pool and fitness room are small but in very good shape. Water pooled in the parking lot, which is cracked and in poor condition in places. I would suggest booking into the Marriott Courtyard which is an equally good location about 3 blocks away. The Courtyard is much newer. The Joe Ripley Jr. stadium is two blocks away and the central police station is two buildings down. The lobby is striking-- just gorgeous and many rooms have view of the Charleston Harbor. I liked the hotel, but the owners should bring the exterior and parking lots up to the same grade as the striking interior.
