Free parking and location!
My main purpose for choosing the St Charles, is the on-site free parking, something I could not find at any other downtown Charleston hotel. It's a short walk to Market Street and many of the city's fine restaurants. The free CARTA trolley stops directly in front of the hotel. It is a charming small hotel, typical of many I've seen in European cities. I can't imagine staying anywhere else in future visits to Charleston.

Always a business choice
I come to Charleston about six times a year and most of my business is in the downtown area. The location of this property is excellent. Free parking and clean rooms are a big plus. Staff is friendly and there is no lack of entertainment and dining in walking distance. Not the fanciest place, but I would also choose this hotel for a weekend with my family.

When I drove up to the ...
When I drove up to the hotel from the street I had to park in their parking lot. That was tight and one was lucky to find parking if you left. Additional parking was across the street. After unloading our luggage and taking it through the awkward entrance upstairs to the front desk I was told to move my car for maintenance. No sign was posted and an employee watched us park. We had to cross the parking lot to get to a small exterior elevator to take up to our room. The room was musty upon entering and the decor was not attractive. There was a balcony with nice rocking chairs if we wanted to enjoy the view of the parking lot and side of the hotel. While resting from a long drive the fire alarm went off. Turned out to be a false alarm. The front desk staff was friendly. They didn't know where a movie theater was and took some time to recommend restaurants. Our last night there we were finally told about a book of restaurants in the lounge area. The maid did not enter our room due to the Do Not Distrub sign left out. When she saw us and did enter she didn't leave any washcloths or enough towels. To add to the experience I knocked by head hard on the way down the stairs from the front desk due to a low hanging overhead. Not good for tall people. I would not recommend this hotel if you want to really feel pampered. The location is great if you just want to save money. When asked how we could have not been placed in a room that we had to cross the parking lot to get to we were told to ask not to be on the 4th floor. Who knew?

Long walk from hotel
Cafe 225 is a great restaurant and a nice walk from the hotel. It is expensive and the hotel did help us make a reservation. There are many restaurants in walking distance. Hyman's though famous seemed cheap to me.

Great value and very friendly
The King Charles Inn-Best Western was very comfortable> The room seemed much larger than most with a desk area and a table and two chairs. They ungraded the rooms at no cost so that my son and his family's room could be next to my room and that could not be accomplished with the standard rooms. The location was excellent, right in the middle of downtown, and the staff extremely helpful. Will definitely stay there again when we visit Charleston.

Great Location!
The Best Western King Charles Inn is in an excellent location. It in the middle of the historic district, and in walking distance of many restaurants, tours and sites. Once we parked our car we never had to move it again. We spent 5 nights in a clean well-maintained room. The staff was very cordial. The only thing I would complain about would be the lack of access to the dining room after breakfast. They don't serve lunch or dinner. That in itself is not a real problem, because there are many restaurants around, however, if you chose to stay in one night you would be hard pressed to find a snack.

Renovations but good
The hotel is currently undergoing renovations which are slated to end in March. Keep that in mind as the main elevator may be out as well as other changes. Two of the outlets were not working at the time. I dealtwith it,but keep it in mind. Location is downtown is perfect. Breakfast is good but a bit pricey. Though there are not that many breakfast options in this area, they should consider makin this free in the future. Stick Fingers on the corner is a good BBQ. Pool is small but ok considering you are surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and therefore can have a real swimming experience. Fitness option is a pass to the club around the corner which is nice. Go to the Charleston Crab House and the Southern Belle.

Great Location
The best thing I can say is the location is perfect for exploring the historic district. We arrived on Saturday and checked out on Monday which was a good thing because they are doing major renovations. Fortunately, the construction work was not being done on the weekend. I can see where it would be a major inconvenience during the week. The room was small and the furniture was large. We couldn't get the cart with the baggage in the room and close the door. The staff were OK but really did not do much to make you feel welcome. If you are looking for a clean room and a good location and don't plan on spending lots of time at the hotel itself, this is a good option.
