Great boutique hotel
The renovated King Charles room had first class furnishings, a high-end bathroom and a good downtown location. There are many fine dining establishments within easy walking distance. The value for the price was unbeatable.

Top of my list "boutique style hotel"
From the moment I arrived and the doorman opened the door to greet me till the last moments before departure, my four night stay was perfect. After I was settled in my room, it was "cocktail hour" with cheese and crackers and an open bar in the cozy lounge area. The manager visited each table and asked what guests might need. I needed dinner suggestions for a solo traveler. Maureen mentioned several options but being able to observe the chef at nearby Cru rang my dinner bell. The staff called to get me in and I was off to a wonderful dinner of chef watching and delicious food. I returned to my gracious king deluxe room. Not only was the bed welcomingly comfy with loads of pillows, I had a flat screen TV, refrigerator and microwave. In addition the spacious room had a desk and two side chairs complete with two ottomans and a side table. The elegance continued to the marble and granite bathroom with a spacious counter. All staff were helpful. Cleanliness sparkled throughout all areas. There is a small swimming pool and terrace beside it for lounging, coffee or evening cocktails. A delicious continental or hot breakfast was fairly priced. You could even eat beside the pool if you wanted. Each day I could have it all again! And then there was the location. I could walk to and from my training conference and shop the entire way. From art galleries to the City Market to King Street, no taxi needed. The hotel had parking but I didn't need a car. The price was very good considering all there was to offer. You might save more if you book a hotel at the airport but if you really want to get the feel of Charleston, stay here. By the way, the manager also recommended Fig for dinner. It is a highly rated neighborhood bistro just across the street. Another dining delight. Ask for recommendations when you see the manager at breakfast if you missed her during cocktail hour. Charleston is literally a step away (Ok, maybe a few). The hotel exudes traditional elegance from arrival to departure. How great is that! I am definately going back. I travel a fair amount and this hotel is a real find.

Fig restaurant has a very simple and non descript exterior. Don't be fooled. Step inside and discover a charming atmosphere, knowledgeable staff and bar service. The food equalled the high ratings in every category. And then the creative desserts put you over the top. Try it but get reservatations unless you are a party of one. Then definately eat at the bar. Utterly charming and lively.

happy in charleston
Location was great - could walk to just about everything or take the trolley with a stop across the street. Did see a few ants in the room, but this is the south. Room was very small with barely enough space to get around the bed, but bed was comfy and extra pillows were provided. Room was quiet and we slept soundly. Some staff members were much more informative and helpful than others. Hotel provides complimentary coffee all the time and has cheese and crackers at the bar at happy hour that you can take out to the pool and enjoy. Overall we were very pleased and would return, but would get a larger room.

very functional hotel
The location, only 2-3 blocks from the market was very convenient. We parked the car and did not move it until we departed. The hotel general manager was helpful with restaurant recommendations. The trolley picked up across the street. The pool was small but an essential part of our trip, although hard to find in downtown Charleston. Minor problem with water pressure one day and air conditioning, although 98 degrees can impact that.

We followed the hotel general manager's recommendation to dine at Slightly North of Broad (SNOB) and had the best meal of our trip by far! You must try the crab cakes and/or the grouper.

Great hotel, wonderful staff. In the heart of historic downtown Charleston and within walking distance to many venues. We visited Folly beach, very nice, also Shem Creek where the shrimp boats dock. Food was outstanding everything, but would recommend Hyman's

Don't waist your time looking for Fort Johnson (the Fort where the first shot was fired that started the Civil War). It no longer exists. There is a Fort Johnson road but it takes you to a dead end leading to the SC DNR.

Honeymoon in Charleston
We had a chance to visit many different attractions as well as restaurants. Many of the restaurants were recommended by the staff and they were great. The only problem was that it had limited parking. However, once parked we were in the heart of downtown so it was very easy to walk to places of interest.
