Disappointing get-away

We planned a special two nights get-away in the club floor because we have stayed before and were so pleased. This time was not a memorable stay. Our room #803 has several holes in the bathroom wall. The TV did not work at all and we contacted the front desk Sunday evening and were told that someone would see to the problem. (Sunday was Super Bowl Sunday and my husband and I wanted to watch the game.) NO TV. that is not good. The next morning after five calls, we were moved to a different room. They didn't attempt to offer us anything (bottle of wine or lunch or some token) We feel that spending $900 for two nights is excessive, but it was a special two night stay and we needed private time. There are many hotels that are rated higher and we will consider anyone of them in the future. We travel to Charleston 3-4 times a year. Again we were very disappointed.

Visit to Charleston, SC

First, I'd like to commend the staff at Charleston Place Hotel. Everyone was accomodating, helpful, and very friendly. True southern hospitality is demonstrated by all. The room we stayed in (621) was newly renovated and exceptionally clean and comfortable. The only minor "complaint" was with the hotel's satellite TV provider. The signal would freeze intermittently which made watching TV annoying but we weren't there to watch TV!! Everything else was perfect. The location couldn't be better. Highly recommended. Stayed 1/10/14 thru 1/12/14.

Dine at Jim & Nick's Bar-B-Q for good smoked meats. Go to Hominy Grill for shrimp and grits. Must try the coconut cake at Pennisula Grill. All 3 were outstanding! Poogans Porch was also an honorable mention!

Excellent hotel

Perfect location in the middle of historic Charleston. Pros: - very friendly staff, concierge service - Spa and Fitness area - Limo service at almost cab price available, e.g. for airport shuttle Cons: - very small TV screen - no coffee maker in rooms - breakfast not included - building not historic (1987)

Club Experience Charleston Place Style

Upon entering the lobby you are dazzled by three large and beautifully decorated Christmas trees located in the lobby's center. Above the trees is a massive chandelier which manages to be huge and elegant and light looking at the same time. The perimeter of the center lobby houses the reservation desk on the left and two lovely restaurants on the right. Further on both to the left and right are wonderful shops to peruse. In the room, which was comfortable size wise and decor wise for a traditional room was every comfort and necessity. However, being a club guest insured that you had access to treats, snacks, alcohol and drinks plus water, fruit cheese and crackers until 10:30 p.m. All in all a lovely experience and one which I plan to repeat.

Walk about one block and have breakfast out of hotel. The area is full of nice shops and cafes and you don't need to spend $50.00 for your first meal. Use the Spa - it employs wonderful professionals : Natale for massage and Leah for facials.

Nice but not so special anymore

Charleston Place has been a Christmas tradition for my family for over ten years, and I've raved about the place to friends in NY where we live. This year I decided to upgrade to a junior suite, which was a bit pricey, but I thought, worth it. We arrived, utterly exhausted, at noon, and our room wasn't ready until 4:00, which, in fairness, is the official check-in time. In fact, our room wasn't ready even then, but they ended up giving us another one after we killed 4 hours shopping. There was a minor snafu with our bags, then we couldn't get wifi, and the room phone kept falling apart - anything related to technology was reminiscent of hotels a decade ago. The suite was fine, and the amenities okay, but not so special, and I'm not sure the experience is worth $500 for one night, not counting spa services. This hotel has a great location, but next year I will explore different options.

Just that one little thing

The hotel is ideally located to make everything walkable. It is a beautiful property and the rooms were very clean and the housekeeping staff was very kind and very friendly. Overall our experience was great except for one night in the lounge we ordered dessert and listened to music. It wasn't even full and we waited forever to be able to flag down our waitress to get our check. She seemed to be taking care of every other table but ours. The only other suggestion that I would make is the concierge needs to listen a little more to what people are looking for in a restaurant. Just because we are staying in a high end hotel does not mean that we always want a white tablecloth and china kind of restaurant. When we ask for a casual place, we don't need to be shown just the high end places.
