Overview

The Belmond Charleston Place in Charleston offers elegance worthy of the city that surrounds it. Perhaps nothing represents the luxury of the Belmond better than its heated saltwater pool. Located on the rooftop of the fourth floor beneath a retractable glass ceiling, the pool offers guests a lavish place to relax. In addition to the pool, the fourth floor also features a Jacuzzi and a children s splash pool. There is a terrace where you can enjoy amazing views of downtown Charleston, while imbibing a drink from the bar. You can also book treatments at the spa, including massages, facials, manicures, pedicures, waxing and body scrubs.

Highlights

Key facts

Shopping opportunities abound on the ground floor. There are 12 clothing stores, including Kate Spade, Tommy Bahama, Anne Fontaine and Calypso St. Barth. Other shops include Godiva, Gucci, Colonial Candle and the Art of Shaving. The Belmond features two onsite dining spots; the garden-style Palmetto Cafe and the jazzy, contemporary Charleston Grill.

You may be tempted to never leave the hotel, but the Belmond s location in historic downtown Charleston means guests are within walking distance of some of the best spots in the city. For example, right across the street is the Charleston City Market, which is the city s most-visited attraction, where dozens of local artisans sell goods you can t find anywhere else.

Great hotel

Would recommend Mon, Nov 23, 2015
Only disappointment was Charleston Grill-food so so and no dress code whatsoever so we got to share the tattoos on man at next table, not very appetizing and when I mentioned to restaurant manager, his attitude was that if they had a dress code, they would not have any business, so while we will stay at Hotel again, will not go to the grill.!

Luxury hotel, worth the cost

Would recommend Tue, Nov 10, 2015
Great location. Fine lobby with upscale bar. Gourmet formal dining room. Nice indoor swimming pool and hot tub. Great staff that responded to our every request. Spacious, well appointed room. Good value but probably too expensive for most people's budget, unless you're there on an expense account or a tax deductible meeting.

Honeymoon

Would recommend Mon, Oct 19, 2015
The staff at the hotel was excellent! Our concierges Robert and Richard handled everything we could ask for. We wanted to change dinner reservations and they handled it seamlessly. Great service by the entire staff. Chilled champagne waiting in our room with chocolate strawberries was a great touch. There are only two things that were disappointing. I had specifically asked if there was any construction going on prior to booking. I was assured there was not. Unfortunately the outdoor area of the pool was closed two days into our stay. As this was the only outside area it was a bit inconvenient. This also prevented any outside area to smoke a good cigar. I really would have liked to enjoy that after dining in their exceptional restaurants. It is my understanding that the construction is on an outside rooftop bar area so maybe those issues are already being addressed. The wifi went down one night. Perhaps not such a huge loss to be disconnected on your honeymoon! Super location! Great cocktails at the thoroughbred lounge! Overall a great experience!

Lodging to Avoid Driving

Would recommend Sun, Oct 11, 2015
Like the hotel and restaurants. Stayed to avoid two round trip drives given traffic headaches post SC-highway floodwater aftermath in Charleston area. Room comfortable, well-appointed, with spacious bathroom and killer marble shower. 24/7 room service at midnight responsive with a delicious cheese and berry plate. Only issue was non-working A/C in the room, where climate was tolerable but could have been more desirably cooler. At checkout, clerk dismissive, suggesting that hotel had 24/7 engineering and I should have contacted them at 12:30 AM. Hotel expensive, but met my needs for convenience, and would stay there again and recommend establishment to others.

great location

Would recommend Wed, Aug 12, 2015
The hotel is centrally located to many restaurants and historical sites in Charleston. The club level is definitely worth the extra money. The pool is nice feature, but exceptionally crowded in the summer. Overall, I would recommend this hotel.

Lovely place to stay, no extras

Would recommend Sat, Aug 1, 2015
Great location, beautiful hotel. Only complaint would be that for the price you pay I would expect some added features or extras. Such as complimentary coffee in the morning or at least a coffee maker in the room. In Savannah most hotels offer a wine reception each night. That would be a nice touch.
