Excellent value, location, charm
We enjoyed our stay greatly. Besides the lovely room, excellent location, and friendly staff, there are the nightly goodies (snacks, wine, desserts) prepared fresh each day. A great discovery.

Charming place to stay
The Anchorage in Charleston, SC was a great place to stay. Staff was extremely friendly and you can't beat the location, being a short walking distance for almost everything in the historic district. Only criticism would be that there is no coffee or refrigerator in the room BUT the complimentary breakfast was better than most restaurants. Wine and cheese in the afternoon and sherry in the evening are very nice touches. The rooms and public areas are beautifully appointed. Would definitly consider staying here again.

Very Nice!!!!!
Location great, within walking distance of the Market area and the river. Fantastic staff! Complimentary wine/cheese in afternoon, along with nightcap sherry and great breakfast. Loved the rooms! Except the upstairs front room was noisy late night because the open air deck bar across the street. Evidently a popular bar, a line formed to get in around 9 and they partied until about 3am. No hotel restaurant or bar...though there are many within a block of the hotel.

Great stay in Charleston
In spite of the freezing temps we loved Charleston. Anchorage in great location. Walked along water and to the aquarium, loved the Charleston museum. I was a little creeped out by the "cavelike" feeling in the windowless room. Good breakfast, nice wine and cheese daily and super internet on house computer. Will definately come back and request room with a window!

Great Location, Good Value
We were able to get a reservation here for Easter weekend when everything else in the location we wanted was either taken or ungodly expensive. We were not disappointed. Clean, decently appointed room with a nice bathroom in a fabulous location. Complimentary continental plus breakfast, wine and cheese in the afternoon and sherry in the evening. Very helpful staff and a public parking garage with which the hotel has an arrangement right behind the hotel. I would recommend the Anchorage to all but those who insist on either deluxe accommodations or a full service hotel. I rated the dining options low because the hotel has no bar or dining room. However, there are literally dozens of superb restaurants withing a three block walk.

Short drive from hotel
For excellent French bistro fare, try 36 Rue du Jean. Take a pedicab from Anchorage as it is too far to walk. I would also recommend Mistral for French food, but sadly, they have closed after 25 years.

amazing character
Great location! The hotel is within walking distance to great restaurants and nightlife in downtown Charleston, but conveniently located on a side street so as not to be disturbed by all the noise that comes with an active city. The charm of the hotel was also wonderful. We felt like we had stepped back in time, while still enjoying modern amenities.

Great Place, Great Price
My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights. Super close to all historic attractions. Very quiet with old style charm. Extremely pleasant and helpful staff. My only negative is the continental breakfast was a carbohydrate overload with no protein.

Great location, friendly staff
The location is perfect for the great restaurants Charleston has to offer or just for walking downtown or along the river front to the Battery. The staff was friendly, and the afternoon wine and cheese, and sherry nightcap were a nice idea. The breakfast left something to be desired, but in Charleston, there are a lot of good options. The peculiarity of the room is that it is an interior room, and the only window opens on to the public area. Not a big deal, but not ideal either.
