Good area

The location was a key factor for me. It's beautiful and still in a downtown area. The staff was helpful, the room wasnt too small and the bed was comfortable. I only stayed one night which was fine. The downside for me was that we had to pay 26 per car for parking. I think that since we were already paying to stay in the hotel, parking should be included, especially since its not a very congested city.

Central Providence Setup

Everything went extremely smoothly from check-in to check out. The valet welcomed me but indicated that I could self-park, particularly if the car wouldn't be in and out of the facility. This hotel is directly connected to the Convention Center and lots of amenites, making it a good all-weather choice. I was checked into the "concierge" level on the 21st floor, and the room was quiet and comfortable. Wi-fi was not included, at least at the (low) price I paid.

Great Location but Otherwise...

I thought the location was terrific! I had a clear shot of the Capitol Building from my window. The hotel is also adjacent to a cool mall, which came in handy for me. The lobby is nice, but the room itself left a little to be desired. The lounge chair in my room was all stained up and just looked filthy; I didn't want to sit in it. The clock, telephone and lamp were a bit on the dusty side, and the top sheet on my bed had a nasty looking stain on it. Also, my morning breakfast tray was still by my door when I returned to my room at 9pm. I notified the front desk and someone came for it right away. Room service was prompt, which is nice, and the food was good. Parking was $18 for each overnight; the hotel does not validate. Parking would have been more had I needed to come and go throughout the day. The staff was nice and friendly, but when my lost luggage arrived at the hotel, I had to go downstairs to pick it up from the front desk; I thought that was a little unusual. Overall, it’s a good place to stay for the money, but I did get a good rate. I'm probably making it sound worse than it was, because overall I enjoyed my stay there. What I've mentioned here are just some things that my be red flags for some travellers.

a night at the westin

checked in for a long weekend stay. staff was great and the service was good. parking was a little strange. $26 to valet with unlimited access and $18 to self park but if you wanna come and go its $10 each time, so if you leave once you end up paying more than valet. guess its some kind of way of creating jobs at the hotel, but it was no big deal as the valet service is great and extreamly fast at getting your car ready for you. location was excellent and the beds were amazing. only place the service was not so great was in the lounge/bar restaurant on the second floor... the name escapes me as it was a extreamly forgetable experience but its the only such place on the second floor. bottom line good deal, good location and would certainly go back.

Decent hotel; good location

Courteous staff, good service. Acceptable cleanliness. Odd layout. Bizarre entry to whirlpool which is set in a seedy, Turkish bath-type crowded environment. Industrial views. Fun bridge to mall to keep you entertained.

The Westin Providence in July

Bed - Stellar (Heavenly Beds do rule.)Shower - OK, though the Heavenly shower isn't as good as the bed. I'm glad I'm only 5'9" and not any taller. The shower still was pretty low on me.Climate control - good, though the A/C was quite loud.Refrigerator - There wasn't really one. There was this strange, empty mini-bar only thing under the TV that was rather gross, and hadn't been cleaned in a while and had dried liquid stains in it.TV - While the TV was a nice, large flatscreen, the channels weren't great. What kind of hotel doesn't have Versus? I was unable to watch the final stages of the Tour de France, which, had I known about ahead of time, would have been a deal killer for me for this particualr hotel. Seriously.Room safe - was present in the closet, but was inoperable and not usable. That didn't make me feel too secure about leaving anything valuable in my room.Location - Phenomenally good.Parking - TERRIBLE. You had to either choose valet parking at an exorbitant $26/night or self-park for $18/night. While it was in an attached garage, I would not consider this close. Had this been disclosed with my reservation, this probably also would have been a deal killer for me for this particular hotel.Fitness Center - Great, with good cardio and weight equipment. Though it would have been nice had it stayed open after 7pm on Sunday. Strange Sunday hours.Spa - did not use.Hotel restaurants - too pricey for Providence to even consider going to. Yes, that ridiculous.Overall - a nice hotel for a decent value given the special rate I got [...], but I left wishing I would have had just as good or better of an experience at another downtown hotel. I'd go back, but only if I could get the same kind of deal on a nightly rate again.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Don't eat at the hotel restaurant if you don't have to. There are many good, more reasonably priced restaurants within a short walk.

Just Average

This was a couple's weekend get-a-way. Hotel room was clean and overall acceptable. No "wow" factors. Good location as you could walk to dinner and other local attractions. There was a "refreshment center" in the room but it was not acceptable for storing food or medications. Directions were available to let you know that you would need to call the front desk to request a mini-fridge for these items. I did so, and the receptionist said that she would check and see if any were available and then she hung up. 5 mins later a service person arrived with a fridge. So the end result was good but not impressed with communication. Valet parking was $26 a day with unlimited check in's and out's. The valet service was very attentive and my car was always waiting for me by the time I arrived downstairs. No complaints about service but thought it was a little pricey. They over charged me by one day, but corrected it once I pointed it out.

Solid but didn't quite hit the bar I set

The room was a good size and of course the heavenly bed and shower were great. But the service was a mixed bag - some people were great - the bell hops, for example. But the folks behind the front desk and in the restaurant upstairs weren't great. Not always attentive and for the front desk in particular they seemed new/inexperienced. The gym was amazing but the spa was ok. Good prices but the massages were mixed and they are small and minimally staffed. Overall, I would stay there again, but would look for a better discount (we paid about $200/night)
