A striking blend of historic architecture and contemporary styling, Mill Street Inn is a former 19th century mill that is on the National Register of Historic Places. It provides spacious, all-suite accommodation and a delightful rooftop patio, just a block from the harbour in Newports exclusive Historic Hill district. This enchanting property has been sympathetically converted to retain the mills historic features, including original beams, exposed brick walls and large front doors. Stay in a Townhouse Suite where the private balcony offers wonderful views of Downtown, Newport Harbour and Newport Bridge. In the summer, enjoy a leisurely breakfast on the roof deck where you can enjoy great views of the harbour; then take a harbour cruise or wander down Bellevue Avenue to browse for antiques or artworks. Be sure to visit the impressive colonial houses on Upper Thames Street and also experience the exhilarating Ocean Drive to fully appreciate the areas stunning beauty.

Mill St. Inn - a great place to stay!

Just off the waterfront. Clean. Staff exceptionally friendly. Parking off street but very tight. Quiet time of year so when we mentioned it was our anniversary, they upgraded us to townhouse with fireplace - very nice. Good value for money if you want more than just a motel room.

Fantastic place to stay

We had a junior suite and the staff was truly nice. The breakfast was well presented. I would come back and stay.

Ok, has potential, just ok though

We did not arrive until late. We had a very nice deck outside the bedroom. The space was oddly claustrophobic due to narrowness of the rooms. Downtown newport was lovely. We did not eat breakfast at the inn, although I did notice that it was served on Paper plates with plastic cups. It has great architectural potential but is just off somehow.

Great stay and great off season price

We stayed for one night in a Townhouse suite with a balcony during February vacation week. The private balcony had a great view of the rooftops, Trinity church and the harbor. I'm sure it would be better in the summer time but it was too cold for us to be outside during our stay. The room was clean and spacious enough for 2 adults and 2 kids. The kids slept on the sofa bed. They offered complimentary snacks in the afternoon and a great continental breakfast in the morning. Our kids loved the fresh juice maker and we loved the cappuccino maker. The location was perfect, located on one of the side streets of downtown Newport and they had free parking. The staff was friendly and offered us to park free in their lot the day we checked out. If you are looking for something in between a full hotel and a bed/breakfast place, with a contemporary and rustic European flair, then this is the place. We really enjoyed our stay and plan to come back again.

Before heading out to Newport, you should check out gonewport.com and check the calendar for events and activities. We are already very familiar with the city of Newport so we didn't need to ask the front desk for recommendations. For new travelers, I'm sure that the front desk staff would be helpful and you should pick up the local newspaper for more options. You can walk to most places from the hotel, i.e. we went ice skating and shopped along Thames Street.
