Very nice hotel
Weekend traveller Nov 30, 2009
The hotel is clean and quiet. The lobby is beautiful. The grounds include a small park and a lighthouse (a photo-op right ... outside your door). My room was nice and spacious. The hotel is close to downtown, where you can find plenty of shops and restaurants. Most of the staff was very friendly. Although when I was checking in and said that my reservation came with free parking, the girl that was checking me in kept saying[...]reservations do not usually come with free parking. I felt like she was telling me I was making it up. I did get the free parking though. So, overall, I am quite happy with the experience.

Very good, got a free upgrade to a fantastic suite at the lighthouse end. Staff were attentive and helpful. Only thing I ... would question is value for money - Drinks, breakfast, etc. all very expensive.

Enjoyed one night stay!

My boyfriend and I went for a Saturday afternoon through Sunday afternoon. The hotel is beautifully appointed and the ... grounds attractive. Our small room had a nice view of the bay. We consulted the concierge about a place to have dinner and she recommended one. However, she didn't suggest reservations and after walking quite a way in the rain to get there, we didn't get in. Luckily, we found another place nearby that suited us. We recommend using the hotel's shuttle to travel to the shopping and dining area of Newport although one could walk. The shuttle was on time and the driver friendly. We had breakfast in the hotel restaurant. We enjoyed the view while dining but waited a long time for our breakfast and when my scrambled eggs and bacon came the eggs were barely warm. On the other hand, the home fries were excellent and there were lots of choices. It was definitely overpriced. Finally, our room was near the elevator and pretty noisy until about 2 am. In the morning, I could hear the alarm in the next room go off. The bathroom, although nicely appointed, was small by any standard. Our kingsize bed was very comfortable.

Really enjoyed the tour of Rough Point. The house was terrific, more intimate than most of the Newport Mansions. The tour guide was well-informed and obliging. The collections were of astounding quality.

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

The hotel is wonderfully located on Goat Island. For this location and price per night the hotel should not be as run down as ... it is. Every couch in the lounge area had very large tears and it was evident that these had been this way for some time. Light on waitstaff in lounge area even though the hotel was in a close to sold out status and there were two weddings taking place. Weddings book well in advance so the hotel would know of the potential business volume. With all of this said Newport is simply beautiful and the weather was magnificant. The food and beverage voucher had stipulations and in the end we were unable to use it. Free parking is only for self park. Not a huge concern but I feel the stipulations should be outlined at time of booking.

Not nearly what I expected
K.W. Aug 18, 2009
The service was all around slow. They did not have enough staff. Waited over an hour for a towel by the pool. Waited over ... an hour for extra towels for the room. Requested early check in and didn't get it. The food was sub-par and not even served hot! Overall I was not at all pleased and will not stay at that hotel again. The location is really nice because it is on the water, and the pool is crowded but nice. If these things are more important than service to you, then the hotel is a good choice.

The Hyatt Regency is located on Goat Island in Newport - just a short walk over a bridge into town. It is near the wharf and ... the visitors' center. We walked by a yacht marina on the way. There is a lovely salt water pool and a terrific outdoor bar that serves cocktails and snacks. There is music outside during cocktail hour on certain weekdays. It was an ideal setting for romance. The room was large enough for a king size bed, a couch, desk, and easy chair. Room service was speedy and friendly. The location is perfect, the staff is friendly, and we will return to this Hyatt.
