Affordable, full-service Newport hotel with free Wi-Fi and outdoor pool
The Best Western the Mainstay Inn has a prime location just one mile from historic downtown Newport and is a quick jaunt to area attractions like the Cliff Walk, Newport Grand Casino, Naval War College and Gilded Age mansions. The inn features an on-site restaurant for American fare and a cocktail lounge with a big screen TV. The Best Western the Mainstay Inn also boasts an outdoor pool, fitness room and banquet facilities. Guests enjoy free Wi-Fi, cable TV and free bath products. Business guests make use of the business center and services.

You get what you pay for
The room was comparable to the price however, the room door required slamming to completely shut and lock. The bathroom could use updating and was on small size. The sleeping area was clean and sizeable, the staff was friendly and pleasant. The location was great.

The shopping area on Thames along the waterfront is filled with upscale to quaint shoppes...a great way to spend the day and then enjoy a great dinner at one of the many top quality restaurants in the area.

Good hotel for the family
This hotel was in a great location. Right off the hwy. It was close to downtown Newport and Middletown RI. Clean and children friendly

Pretty depressing but bearable
The hotel was right off the highway and shabbily decorated, and the staff was a bit ragged and unprofessional - a let down, especially considering that the rate was not cheap!!

Reasonable Rates, comfortable stay!
Just an overnight, Room was comfortable. Dinner in the restaurant was tasty (almost too much food for the price. Room service was a pleasant splurge. Slept very well! Service was quick and convenient.

friendly, clean ,safe
great location, rooms very comfortable, no dining or restaurant which i thought all howard johnsons had, but construction of one is taking place and restaurants are very nearby.

Family Friendly
The Best Western Mainstay was clean, comfortable and only a couple of miles from downtown Newport. The only suggestion I would make is to go with at least a room with a queen sized bed. The full size beds seemed very small. The bathroom was a good size and was very clean.

It's only a short drive to anything you might want to do: shop, sightsee, entertainment, beach. We found it very easy to venture out and not lose our bearings. The location of motel is good spot to get back to.
