Worse experience after 40 years travel

After two weeks traveling in the U.S. my wife and me wanted to relax the last 3 days in Newport RI before flying back from Boston to Europe, where we live. The hotel is the worse experience after 40 years of traveling around the world. Simple low level room in the 2. floor. No lift. A plank of wood was in front of the window. The air condition very noisy. The bathroom simple and small. Old and rickety furnitures and lamps. Some areas not clean. No parking, only at public parking space. We paid $ 917,32 for the room including breakfast plus $ 54.00 for parking.

In the heart of Newport

Room was clean. It is a "homely" type of place. The hotel was right on Thames street which is the main area to be. The only negative was that you had to park in a parking lot across the street and had to pay for that separately. Though the hotel it was at a discounted rate of $19.00 per day. Friendly staff. And no complaints. I would go back and I would recommend it to a friend so long as they weren't fussy.

Entertainment tip: Short walk from hotel

Check out for when Bruce Jacques is playing at Pelham East (a local bar). Great show and is a crazy fun! Bars are only open until 1:00am in Newport all week long.

Bars aren't open too late so don't pregame all night and go out for only an hour.

Good room in heart of downtown

For an affordable room right in the middle of downtown Newport, this hotel can't be beaten. It's a historic hotel so don't expect a pool, but the continental breakfast was excellent. Would've been nice to see any green features - no recycling, no CFLs, no way to turn down air conditioning, which was at full blast.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

Instead of paying $25 a day in a parking lot, I found free street parking a few blocks from the hotel.

America's Cup Inn

Very good experience. Great location, real close to all the shops and restaurants. However, make sure you shut your window at night and use the air conditioner as the outside gets very noisy in Newport. Breakfast was okay, kind of weird that you had to microwave your own food though, but the muffins and pastries were delicious.

Great location

The B&B was our first and we found the hotel clean, comfortable and ideally located for our trip. The staff was friendly and helpful. We stayed in one of the two double bed rooms on the second floor. It was perfect for our needs. Everything in the hotel worked and the staff/owners have gone out of their way to provide items to make your stay enjoyable and comfortable. I did notice some wear and tear in the room but chalked it up to it being the end of the season. The self serve breakfast is unbelievable!! They provide a table full of anything you could possibly want to start your day. Being located on the main drag, it was easy to stop back to drop off purchases or to grab a sweater. I would stay again.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

You might skip the Viking Trolley Tour unless you take it the first day to get to know the area a bit. It was informative but we'd already seen most of what we were shown. Make sure you sit on the right side of the trolley if you want to view the ocean.

Pleasant Enigma

The America's Cup Hotel is situated in the heart of Newport. It appears the building is a historic site. If the guest realizes the challenges present in an old building then the minor inconveniences will be worth the value. By minor, I mean no elevator to service the five flights of stairs. My eleven year old was disappointed by the lack of TV. He quickly over came this dilemma when I engaged him in a good card game and book. A victory for parents everywhere. The room was of typical size, meticulously clean and equipped w/ a efficient air conditioner. It was also very quiet despite being situated directly on the very busy and loud Thames St. The hotel advertises a "Continental Breakfast". It was a complete breakfast spread catering to every diet type. I challenge anyone to find this type of accommodation at a value price in Newport.

Money-saving tip: In Hotel

Take advantage of the Hotel parking. The sticker costs 18.00 dollars for 24 hrs. and you can come and go out of the lot the entire time. Finding parking in Newport is always difficult and costly.
