Bring earplugs

Got a room for $117 including tax the night before a Saturday overnight stay. Had hoped to get a much cheaper rate, but chalked it up to it being a weekend night during prime-time wedding and reunion/vacation season. Was extremely pleased the staff allowed us an early check-in at 12:30. The room was clean and relatively comfortable with a microwave and fridge, which was really appreciated. The towels were stiff and I immediately removed the hideous, scratchy coverlet on the bed. I think the bed was one of those air mattresses, because it bulged and squeaked awkwardly, but was comfortable. The pillows were lumpy. All this said, the hotel is located conveniently to shopping and restaurants (great pagash at The Dough Company down the road; Kmart and Target are nearby and there is a Perkins next door where you can get a 5 percent discount if you show your room key, apparently) and there is a decent continental breakfast (pastries, cereal, coffee) and free copies of the paper IF you get up early enough. The main reason I would never stay here again is that the walls are paper-thin. We were awakened at 5 am by a screaming baby and their parents talking loudly and at length. It honestly felt like they were in the room with us. It was impossible to fall back asleep and we were exhausted the rest of the day. In hindsight, we should have brought earplugs. If you do the same, it is possible to have a good stay here. It just wasn't fun to pay a high rate and leave the place exhausted.

Haystacks has great breakfast and attentive wait staff. Check out local pizza parlors that carry a regional delicacy called pagash -- it's a pizza stuffed with potato, onion, cheese and sometimes cabbage. It's unlike anything I've ever tried and worth seeking out. Think pierogi pizza sans the pasta element.
